I believe you could - with a strong foundation of supercurriculars and work experience. Oxbridge may "advise" FM

Have you looked at the requirements? They might be different at Imperial and Cambridge compared to other members of the Russell Group. They might also vary according to the specific branch of engineering.

I just noticed that your first post says "just maths, physics and business as levels". Did you mean A-levels?

Sorry, yes, that’s what I intended.

Yes you can get into good unis for engineering with those A-levels. Can you get into Bath, Loughborough or Lancaster though??? 😁

Look at the 'entry requirements' for the sort of Engineering degree that interests you on a range of different Uni websites - and then go to Uni Open Days.

Examples :
Undergraduate study | Engineering@Southampton | University of Southampton (scroll down for courses)
Undergraduate degrees in engineering - School of Physics, Engineering and Technology, University of York

Those 3 are very good universities but not in the RG.
Hi there @JibberJam,

While Lancaster University may not be a Russell Group university, the Engineering degrees are still of good repute, with brand new state-of-the-art facilities (the new Engineering building was finished last year, if I recall correctly).

Do you know what sort of specialisation you might like, or still looking over options? If you have a specialisation in mind, here's a list of our Undergraduate Engineering Degrees for further information.

The entry requirement for the BEng Hons Engineering (UCAS code H100) is ABB, requiring A-Level Mathematics and a physical science subject (Physics is included). If you're uncertain which type of engineering you plan to progress onto (i.e. mechanical, chemical, nuclear, electronic), the first year of general engineering is designed to provide a baseline for specialisation in Year 2.

The curriculum is being enhanced at the time of writing so module details are currently unavailable and should be available by June 2025 (ahead of our summer open days).

I'd recommend booking and coming to an upcoming open day to see the facilities, talk with lecturers and students etc.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask here or at Unibuddy (you can filter for Engineering students, although their modules aren't guaranteed to be what will be available in the future).

Hope this helped!
- Vicki, Lancaster University Student Ambassador
