Is herts really that bad?

I just firmed my unconditional offer from herts for graphic design, im now SCARED because everyone is saying how awful and boring It is, is it really that bad?
The location (Hatfield) or the university itself? Who told you it was "awful and boring" - people you know or people online? What was their point of reference?

i’ve heard it from people that have attended and also from people online, i’m not concerned about the course i’ve met the leaders and they’re lovely i’m just concerned about literally having nothing to do but i’m not sure if everyone is just being dramatic or if it’s just fearmongering?

Sure. I'm glad you're excited about going to the uni 🙂 I'm sure you'll have a good time. The place - like all places - is what you make of it, since if you go there expecting to hate it you probably will. So approach it with an open mind! But honestly, having gone to a uni where I didn't like the place much it didnt matter a crazy amount in the end. I still found things i liked about it - I had a favourite sushi place and some local independents I went with my friends. And Hatfield is like 20-30 mins outside of London so i'm sure you'll be fine lol

Hi! I'm doing my Doctorate at Herts and chose it because it was funded, and I live five minutes away. I did my first and second degrees at UEA and UCL, so Hatfield doesn't seem like the buzziest of places for student life (compared to Norwich and London). But the uni itself has two nice campuses each with their own gym, a big on campus club, and is close to London. It's also fairly close to St Albans and Hertford, which offer better options in terms of nightlife.

Hatfield isn't the most prepossessing place to live, but it's useful - well served by supermarkets, a big shopping mall with Nandos/Wagamamas and a cinema, and within 20 mins of London. The Spoons (Harpsfield Hall) is good and usually full of students during term time. It's not going to be a party 24/7, inner city student experience, but you're by no means in the middle of nowhere. Your experience, like most other people's will depend on who you meet and the friendships you form.
