Tier GCSE - future options

Hello,
My teacher will not place me on GCSE higher for sciences, even though I’ve worked so hard over these weeks and I’ve been getting 8s, 9s in my past papers.

I want to study A Levels : Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.
I want to study medicine at university.

However, I know that med schools / sixth forms look at GCSE grades and A-levels.

I am thinking of sitting my GCSE sciences higher tier next year privately, is that possible?
And for getting into med school, do you think a college would accept me for those a levels or do you think I should sit them privately too?

If I am aiming for the Russell group universities, will this impact me in any way? will I still be able to get into medicine?
I’ve already got a really strong set of extra/supra curriculars.

Is this all possible?

Thank you

i take it ur in year 10?
i dont rly know what to say about sitting your GCSE's and A levels privately but i can talk a little bit about the alevels overall
i am also looking to do bio and chem at a level and am on track to achieve this. obviously you need a 6 minimum in ur GCSEs to be able to get on that course for aelvel so it does seem like ur teachers are screwing you over a little bit here - u tell them u been getting 8/9's (also did you do those past papers in exam conditions?) - because that caps you at a 5 making it impossible to get onto alevels unfortunately
I was looking at the sixth form or college debate and when i was putting in applications a couple months ago i hopped down to my local college and - just to save u a bit of time - when i said i wanted to go into medicine they pretty much said "oh well u would be waaaaay better doing sixth form as its easier to get into med sch for alevel.

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply, it really means a lot.
I’m in year 11 so unfortunately I can’t move tiers anymore.
My teachers denied to put me on higher due to the mock exam grades I achieved in March (even though I improved a lot after!)
And yes I completed all past papers in timed conditions!) and I’ve been getting 8s and 9s!

I was really stressed at the beginning, and I honestly thought that my dreams of getting into med school were over. My teachers decisions have impacted me a lot (in a negative way).
However, to be honest with you my whole high school experience has been terrible so I knew that I should never get my hopes up lol.
But, in the end of the day this is my life, and I know that I am capable of becoming a doctor.
So, my plan now is to hopefully resit science gcses privately this upcoming year, and as I cannot get into colleges etc without having 6+ in sciences I have chosen to independently study for my A-Levels next year.
I emailed universities to double check with them if they accept resits and the ones I want to apply to all do accept them 🙂

Good luck with your studies too x

So you're going to learn all of higher tier gcse science in like 2 months, and do all of A levels by yourself? A levels are really hard, can you not join college like late or next academic year?

I've actually learnt all of the higher content, completed all past papers etc (I finished all the content in November!).
And, I have covered half of the content for my A-Levels (independently) already, so I feel prepared to sit the exams next summer 🙂

Oh wow, alright then - how can they not let you do higher when you've already done half of A level!! That sound's great though good luck
