Impact of 4 days missed at Uni

I will be studying at the University of Strathclyde next year and i have a holiday booked from the 28th of March to the 11th of April. My time off starts from the 3rd of April to the 17th meaning I will miss Monday-Thursday on the week. Is it fine to miss a few days at the end of term? Exams start from the 20th of April, so I feel like it would be enough time to catch up on any final parts I would miss.

Yes it'll be fine. Just make sure you stay disciplined to teaching yourself the material once you're back. Would be helpful if you have friends on your course that you could ask for any additional notes or information that you missed.

I came out of first year with a first on average despite 60% attendance. You should be fine, depending on course and teaching hours.

Hello!

I wouldn't worry about missing the 4 days of the week in the run up to the exams too much. By this stage most of the work will be covered and if you speak to your tutors before you go away you could ask them specifically what you will be missing and I am sure that they will be able to provide you with the materials for the parts of the course you will be missing. You can also ask your classmates to fill you in when you are back from your holiday.

Stay on top of all your reading and the assignments etc throughout the term and so when you do go away you will only need to consolidate those 4 days of study.

Good luck with your first year at uni I hope it all goes well, but if you have any other questions, just ask!

Hi there!

As the above says, it really isn't an issue to miss a few days here and there, especially if there is nothing scheduled that is assessed for those days. You never know, you might not even have anything timetable for some of those days, so you might not even be missing 4 days!

Just make sure you do catch up on things you miss before your exams start. Otherwise, you deserve to have a break every once in a while! Whilst I believe having good attendance at uni does help your grades a lot, missing a few days won't impact your studies too much.

If you are concerned about missing certain lectures at the time, I would get in touch with your lecturers closer to the time to ask if they can go through a couple things with you before you leave?

Hope this helps
Good luck with your first year!

Hey anon! 🙂 If you're starting in September you'll have a welcome week to introduce you to the course, the lecturers and some of the support staff here. As some of the others in the thread have mentioned - if you're organised ahead of time then being away should be manageable, but just make sure you re-arrange any tutorials you might miss. You can use the welcome week to sort your timetable, and if you're due to have any tutorials you might be able to work that out early in your schedule. You'll have access to MyPlace which will have all the key contact details for your course.

I'd recommend being pro-active and letting your lecturers know in advance, and making sure you're able to catch up at some point!

Hi there!

As others have said already, it won't matter too much if you miss a couple of uni here and there. The most important thing is that you ask your tutors if there is anything that you will need to do and make sure you catch up!

Lecture and seminar material are usually posted online (on whatever site your uni uses) in advance, so have a look at these and then make sure you ask your tutors to clarify anything that you do not understand as you will need to make sure you actually understand it all.

The only thing that would be a problem would be if you were to have a presentation or something similar on this week, so just check that, but if you know in advance you should be fine with this and I am sure your tutors will sort something out for you.

I hope this helps,
