Help picking firm choice

I have 2 offers from Bath, one is natural sciences and is A*AA and one is biochemistry AAB both with placement year.
My backup choice is biochemistry at exeter BBB
I’m not sure what to put as my firm choice because I really want to do natural sciences but I’m worried about not getting grades that high and not being able to go to bath. Biochemistry is the safer option but not really the course I want to do. Would it be a good idea to put biochemistry as my firm and then on results day, if I get the grades try and switch to natural sciences? Or would it be better to put natural sciences and if I don’t get the grades try and get into biochemistry as I don’t really know how it works

If you want Nat Sci at Bath, make that your Firm - most courses even at that level will usually accept some near-misses, but there will not be 'spaces to phone up about' on Results Day because they will have already filled them with those near-misses.

If Biochem doesn't appeal to you then don't pick that as your Insurance - you can just have a Firm choice. There are hundreds of Bioscience and 'related to Chemistry' subjects, and so there will be Clearing places available for these subjects if you do need that option, or you could simply take a gap-year, resit and reapply for Nat Sci.

I would do biochemistry as one of the choices in Nat Sci anyways and I’d rather just to biochem then not go to uni at all. My worry is that I pick biochem at bath as my firm and then I actually get the grades for Nat Sci and miss out on it. I need an A in chem in both which is what im worried I’ll miss. Would it be worth the risk and putting both of them down or better being safe and would they be likely to let me in if I got a B in chem but the same or higher in biology and psychology?
Hello,

As McGinger says, if you want to study NatSci, put that as your firm choice but we do understand that it is a hard decision.

Also echoing McGinger, it may be possible that we consider and accept some near misses come August, should you not quite meet the conditions of the your offer.

If you have any questions about your offers, please do call the Admissions team on 01225 383019 and they'll be happy to answer them.

All the best for your exams,

University of Bath
