I need help- Biotechnology

Currently I'm doing biology maths and sociology, but I really wasn't sure what I wanted to do before college, I'm pretty confident on either biomedical science or biotechnology. I'm leaning towards biotechnology also but I dont do chem. My question is shall I find a university who will accept me without chem or shall I just do biomedical?
Also if I should do biotech is there any universities that accept the course without chem?
If theres any current biomedical students, did you get accepted into the uni without work experience because I cant find anything.
Thanks

Work experience is not strictly mandatory for any degree in any subject. However, those who do tend to boost their application for competitive degrees e.g. medicine, veterinary science, dentistry. There are plenty of unis offering biomed degrees that you can get in without needing to do work experience. I can't say for certain when you apply for degrees in top end unis though.

Hi there,

Both Biomedical Science and Biotechnology are great options with strong career prospects, so it's great to hear you're interested in those fields!

Entry requirements can vary between universities, so it’s always a good idea to check the individual course pages. Here’s what we look for at LJMU:

BSc Biotechnology

Entry requirements: BCC–BBB

A Level subjects: We require a Level 3 qualification in Chemistry and/or Biology or another relevant science.

Since you’re taking Biology, you meet the subject requirements so not having Chemistry isn’t a problem for this course.
You can find more info about the course here: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduates/2025/36142-biotechnology-bsc-hons

If you’re still considering Biomedical Science, you can check out that course here too: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduates/2025/32805-biomedical-science-bsc-hons

As for work experience, it’s not a requirement for our courses. Many students apply without it, so don’t worry if you haven’t had the chance to gain any yet.

Hope this helps clear things up a bit!

Best of luck with your decisions 😊

Megan (LJMU Rep)
