University of Nottingham 2025/26 Accommodation: A Quick Guide.

Apply now for Undergraduate 2025/26 Accommodation!

Applications for University of Nottingham halls are officially OPEN for the 2025/26 academic year! In other words, this means that you are a step closer to begin your university journey 😊.

How does the process work?

If you have firmly accepted your offer (conditional or unconditional), you are good to go! Just remember to wait 48 hours after you confirm your course before logging into the accommodation portal. The process is fairly straightforward. First, head over to our accommodation portal to secure your spot and after that just click on “start your application now” in order to start the process: Accommodation

Which halls are the most convenient for me?

From my experience as a current University of Nottingham (UoN) student, I would argue that there are three main factors that you must consider:

Catered vs. Self-Catered?

Decide early if you want the convenience of catered halls (e.g. Cripps Hall, Hugh Stewart, Newark Hall) or the greater independence of self-catered ones (e.g. Broadgate Park, Riverside Point). Catered halls include meals, meaning that you just turn up and eat with your hallmates, there is no cooking stress at all! This can be a lifesaver when you’re busy (and means instant friends to sit with at dinner). Self-catered halls give you more freedom to cook what and when you like, but you must remember that you’ll be in charge of groceries and meal prep, so weigh what suits your lifestyle best.

Location Matters (This is Fairly Important for 9am Lectures!):

Location is another critical factor when choosing the right student accommodation to suit your needs. If you’ve got a lot of 9am lectures (or you value your sleep), living on or near campus is convenient because you may roll out of bed and be in the teaching spaces within minutes. Halls on University Park campus (like Cripps or Hugh Stewart) mean zero commute, whereas off-campus options require a bit more travel planning. For example, Riverside Point is about a 15-minute walk from University Park or a quick bus ride in the Hopper Bus, which is still manageable. Another good idea is to work out where your faculty is. For instance, if most of your classes are on Jubilee Campus, living there (say, in Newark Hall) could be a smart move so you’re right next door.

Budget and Be Flexible:

Keep your budget in mind and use your application choices wisely. En-suites and prime locations on campus can be pricier, so figure out what you can realistically afford. The good news is Nottingham guarantees first-year accommodation if you apply by the deadline. Likewise, manage your expectations: in first-year halls, you’ll be living with lots of other students kitchens might get messy until it’s cleaning day, and not every corridor will smell like roses 24/7. But that’s all part of the experience! Hall cleaners will do their bit, and you and your flatmates will learn to laugh off the occasional chaos.

Final Remarks:

So, are you ready to take the next step? You may head to the accommodation portal today, and secure your preferred hall 😊. As mentioned, look into the different options you have at your disposal, and rank your top three halls based on the location, cost, and the potential amenities in the area!

Hello! Please can I have more info on the hopper bus that runs from (near) Cavendish to QMC, I can see a bus route map on the website but it wasn't very clear. And what about the tram please? Many thanks!

Hello @Sallylin!

I believe the 903 is the most convenient bus service to go the QMC. The closest stop to the Hospital is Derby Road Hillside (LE01). There is more information here with regards to the bus schedules here: 903 Bus Schedule

In terms of the tram, the closest stop to Cavendish Hall is University Boulevard, which is about a 5min walk from the halls. The QMC is two stops away (i.e., University Boulevard > University of Nottingham > QMC).

I hope it helps,
Abián.

Hi Abián, would you said the buses are better than getting the tram please?

Hi @Sallylin,

The Hopper Bus is free of charge, which is a big advantange in my opinion. Note that the tram leaves you directly in the hospital and I would also consider the option of walking too so that you have three alternatives to get there 🙂.

I hope it helps,

Thanks again Abián! Walking would take 30 mins from cavendish, is doable but not ideal on rainy days
