Lancaster vs Warwick

I have an unconditional from both any advice on which one I should go for

firstly congratulations on that alone. What subject?

I honestly think subject is the first consideration for 'where' and then after that what meets all your other needs. I have visited both Uni's over the years and like them both from different perspectives. I will say though Lancaster has one hell of a library on its campus lol 🙂 ha ha.

Hello @Arun Mendum

Congratulations on both of your unconditional offers, that is amazing! In terms of general advice I would urge you to consider what you value most at a university, consider things like; league tables, contact hours, study spaces, campus/city uni, the actual city your university is in, the links to other cities nearby, societies and clubs, accommodation, nightlife etc.

There is a lot to consider but it's best you make an informed decision, maybe come up with some key categories that you really want to prioritise and write a pros/cons list for each uni in each category - sometimes having it written down can help you understand what you're looking for.

Additionally, I would recommend doing as much research as possible, whether that be online, social media, or visiting places in person if possible. I would highly recommend you speak to some of our current students, you can find someone who is studying your course and ask them any questions about their academic and personal experiences at Lancaster, you can speak to our students HERE.

If you have any more questions about Lancaster, feel free to reply here and one of our ambassadors will help you out.

Best of luck!

Hi quick question I am quite into hiking and was wondering if their are ever any trips to the Lake District

morning again, so ok not sure for P&H course as only went visiting for Maths, but I believe both Uni's are rated well and high in this course regard. Did you visit either? I'm a Lake District fan so when we went to Lancaster open day we realised the proximity to it and I found both that and the Lancaster campus appealing. I know you can get a bus pretty much all the way from Keswick to pretty much Lancaster as I got on one in error when holidaying in the LD and then just stayed on enjoying the view 🤣

I do believe myself they have a hiking society as my Son quite likes a bit of hiking as well (Scouting, DofE etc...) so I cant believe for one moment you'd not have trips to the LD.

Check out the course modules for both Uni's, definitely as the Ambassador above says think about things like cities you are close to, societies you can join, nightlife. Honestly? I'd put both of these Uni's on a bit of par myself with the nightlife judging by friends of my children at both. I dont think either are renowned for 'mega nightlife' but definitely think for both society wise and on campus options are improved as a result. Both have nice sports facilities if that's your thing, both to me have a nice 'feel' to them.

My son is currently deciding between firming between Warwick and Bath. I know I love Bath as a city and it's proximity to the campus was appealing to me as a Parent, I was less enthused at nearby options for Warwick at first. But then we did a little trip into Conventry and Leamington Spa whilst there and both serve the uni students well in different regards.

Hi @Arun Mendum

We actually have an amazing hiking society that organises lots of hikes all over - including to the Lake District! I'll link their page on the Student Union website and their official website so you can check out the events they've organised and how to contact them on social media if you have any questions.

Hi @Arun Mendum

Congrats they are both very good universities! While I do not know much about Warwick's History and Politics course, Lancaster does provide the links and opportunities to apply for the Richardson Institute - Lancaster University internships. This will allow you to 'work alongside leading policy and research organizations, developing analytical and research skills and putting into practice what they learn during their degree'.

Hope this helps,
Rachel -Lancaster Uni Student Ambassador
