philosophy vs rs a level

Its a bit early for me to think about a levels but there are no a levels around me doing philosophy, how different is philosophy as a standalone subject than to religious studies? I dont particularly want to do religion but if i have to then its fine

Philosophy is very much thought based so for example what is knowledge, where does our knowledge come from, where do our mental states come from, do they exist. It’s very very interesting and intellectual whereas i can imagine RS is much more fact based and less discussion based. I believe there is also a combined A level of the two which have some components from both!

oh okay! it sounds like philosophy is more for me but apparently aqa is the only exam board that offers it standalone so i guess i'll just have to keep searching for it :frown:

I think it depends what exam board you’re under! I took RE and a lot of people don’t realise that, although the course does have a lot of religious concepts to study, 1/2 of the exams are completely about philosophy and ethics! We look at the ethics behind euthanasia and abortion, and also things like Aquinas’ ways and cosmological/telogocial arguments.
