What would you guys do in my situation?

I am in year 12 and I am currently doing English Lit, History and c-tech Digital media!
I like my subject but I’m always getting Cs and below for my subjects unfortunately :frown:
For my digital media exam which is worth 25% of my course, I did horrible the first time round and then re-sat it yesterday and I can just tell I got the same grade or worse…
I can tell that this c-tech won’t really give me good prospects for Apprenticeships and Uni so, I’m wondering, if I should retake yr 12 and choose maybe Psycology or sociology instead?

if you cant figure a way to improve, and are disappointed by the grades even when working hard then I would suggest you do. especially if aiming for top unis

Hi! Thanks for sharing, I think it's great that you're thinking ahead about your options.

I did both Sociology with Psychology at A level and found them really interesting and more suited to my strengths. I'm currently studying Sociology With Psychology and Data Analytics at City St George's University. If you feel your strengths are in essay writing, debates, and exploring theories, then Sociology might be a great fit for you. It's very discussion and writing based, and it helps if you enjoy thinking critically about society and current issues. So if you think those subjects might suit you better then what you're doing now, it could be worth considering a restart with them.

Before making any decisions, I'd defintely recommend looking at some uni courses or apprenticships you're interested in and checking what subjects and grades they require. That way, you can see if your current subjects will get you there or if a change might improve your chances.

Also, it's a good idea to speak to a teacher or careers advisor, they can help you weigh up your options and figure out what path works best for you.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck with everything! 😊

Hey! First of all, thank you for being so open. I know it’s not easy to share how you’re feeling, but it’s totally valid to be unsure at this stage.
From what you’ve said, it sounds like you actually care a lot about your subjects, which already puts you in a strong position. Digital Media can still open doors, especially if you’re more into creative or practical work like editing, design, or content creation. Sometimes grades don’t reflect potential, especially when you’re still figuring out how you learn best.
If you’re considering retaking Year 12, I’d suggest asking yourself:
Do I want a fresh start because I’m genuinely interested in another subject (like Psychology)?
Or do I feel stuck because I haven’t performed the way I hoped in my current subjects?
Either way, there’s no “wrong” move. People take different paths; some retake a year and thrive, and others keep going and improve over time. Don’t count yourself out based on a couple of exam results, especially in Year 12.
Whatever you decide, make sure it feels right for you. You’ve got time, and you’re not alone. ☺️
