Reviews can be very subjective (and are more likely to be posted by those who have had a bad experience rather than a good experience). Every uni will have students that want to party and others that don't. Have you asked if you can share a flat with other healthcare course students as they are more likely to be considerate if you are on placement shifts, etc? MMU's SLT course meets the standards set by the HCPC and you can read the HCPC's performance review report here:

https://www.hcpc-uk.org/education/resources/performance-review-reports/england---north-west/

Did you go to an open day or offer-hoder day? Were you happy with what you saw of the department and wider uni?

Not willing to go UoM or can't go? They're right next to each other so I don't see how location can be an issue.

just a matter of personal politics - im personally very pro Palestine and although literally all uk unis have indirectly or directly funded Israel at some point, including manmet, uom is quite proud of the fact that one of their old professors became the prime minister of Israel and has a lot of direct relationships with tel aviv university (israel’s universities are where the initial research for their weapons takes place) so it’s just not something im willing to do/compromise on

Hi @D:help

It can be a really stressful time choosing if a city or university is right for you! Everyone will have a different experience depending on certain factors. If you haven't done so already, I would recommend coming to one of our open days and checking out the university for yourself. You will be able to speak to the tutors and our support team to get a feel for the type of support we can give you!

Our next one is 18th June and you can book here if you want to come: https://www.mmu.ac.uk/study/open-days/undergraduate

We have a couple of student reps on the student room who can tell you a bit about their experience studying at the university. Although they aren't Speech and Language students it might help hearing a students perspective! @Manchester Met - Student Rep @MMU-UGStudentRep

A few years ago I did my undergraduate degree with the university which was based in the Health and Education department and I felt really supported by my tutors and the university, both personally and academically.

Any questions about the university just give us a shout!

Carly 🙂

Hi @D:help,

I'm a student at MMU and although I'm not on the speech and language therapy course myself but as someone who studies at Man Met I can definitely share a bit about the general vibe and support here!

In terms of support, it really depends on your course and how much you reach out. I've had good experiences with wellbeing services and personal tutors, and there are lots of ways to get academic help too (like skills workshops and 1:1s). That said, if you ever feel like you're not getting the help you need, speaking up usually gets things moving. But again, I've always had pleasant experiences.

Plus, the city itself is a great place to study - lots going on, really diverse, and student-friendly.

If you want something specific about the speech and language course I would recommend popping along to the open day Wednesday June 18 (https://www.mmu.ac.uk/study/open-days/undergraduate) to speak directly with current students or lecturers! But from a student experience point of view, Man Met has been a really positive place for me so far.

Happy to answer anything else too! You've got this 🙂

Innaya,
MMU Student Rep x
