Job

I chose biology psychology and sociology as my A levels and only kept biology in for the sake of keeping that pathway open- since i’m not a big fan of science.
Is there any good paying jobs or good courses in uni that only require biology and not chemistry, physics or maths A level?

In a previous post you stated that you were doing a Level 3 qualification in Medical Science.
What are you actually taking.

Hi there,

Thanks for your question! It’s great that you’re keeping your options open by taking Biology even if science isn’t your favourite, it can still lead to some interesting and well-paying opportunities.

There are definitely university courses and career paths that only require Biology at A level (and don’t need Chemistry, Physics, or Maths). Subjects like Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Psychology (depending on the course), and even some areas of Healthcare or Sport Science could be a good fit.

If you’re interested, here’s a link to explore courses at LJMU you could then compare them with courses, modules and career prospects at other universities to see what feels like the right fit:
https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses#tab-browse-by-subject

Keep in mind that universities set their own entry requirements, so courses with the same name might ask for different A levels depending on where you apply it’s always worth checking the details on individual course pages.

Hope that helps! 🙂

If you’re not a big fan of science, it’s not worth taking bio just to keep your paths open. A levels are difficult and you won’t do well in a subject you don’t enjoy. Having a 3rd subject you like and will do well in keeps your doors more open than a 3rd subject with a bad grade.

Hi there,

if you are not a big fan of science, then why have you picked Biology and Psychology. Do you mean you are not a big fan of the core sciences (Physics, Biology and Chemistry)?

Psychology may count as a second science. At Kingston, you can do a Biological Sciences degree with one Science subject (Biology). You can also do a Psychology degree. When picking any degree, please make sure they are accredited by professional bodies, this can be vital to your career.

I did a Biological Sciences (specialized in medical biology) degree. I am now doing a masters in Pharmaceutical Science and now work in the pharmaceutical industry and have had experience in clinical research. Additionally, you can look into becoming a patent attorney for a biotech company. if you like travelling, commercial roles in the pharmaceutical industry are perfect for that.

I think you need to identify an area in which you are interested, and a degree that allows you to enter that area.

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)
