Durham College Allocation

Has anyone with a Durham offer for 2025 entry heard back about their preliminary college allocation yet?

Sadly no. Think it’ll be more like the 20th judging from previous years ☹️ . What are your top three?

Its defo super annoying tho, they havent really provided any info which is pretty bad when its peak exam season we shouldn't really have to worry about exams, and where we will be for the next year.

I know it's only preliminary, but still keen to know. Top 3 are - Collingwood, Jo Butler, John Snow

I emailed them about a months ago clarifying when it would be and they said it would begin on the 12th and all allocations would be completed by the end of the week. Unfortunately that seems to have been wrong, but at least I know it isn't just me

It’s not that deep though. You may be allocated one college now and get reallocated on results day. There are people who thought they were going to Hatfield or University College but were reallocated on results day to other colleges due to the capacity.

The suggestion is to focus on your exams and not worry too much on something that could change again.

I understand the frustration, Durham is notoriously slow with comms. Good luck with your allocation and your exams.

That’s true. St Chad’s had a 40% reallocation rate after results day last year. Someone sent me the FOI stats but can’t find them now

In 2023, over 30% of applicants were reallocated from Castle, Collingwood, St Mary's & St Chad's - with St John's just under 25% - after confirmation of offers on results day. This is from a Palatinate article online, dated July 26, 2024.
Of course if students meet their offer and had firmed Durham then they have a higher chance of retaining their allocation.

Yes, it happens. It’s best not to rely too much on the first allocation

If by some miracle I get castle and they take that from me I might never recover 💔💔
(Obviously joking, but fr castle is the impossible dream at present)

We have friends who were allocated Stephenson, Josephine Butler and Trevelyan - and they all loved their colleges.

Has anyone applied to college scholarships?

Allocations might start being received this evening. Last year they started Monday (20th) from about 6pm and it looks like it was 14th/15th the year before. The colleges were no longer visible on the portal this weekend gone.
