So frustrated with English

I’ve revised so much and still feel like I don’t know anything- this is definitely me panicking because I had my first exam for English on Wednesday and I do Edexcel King Lear and the questions were very mean. I got full marks on my coursework but I don’t know if it will be enough. Honestly feel completely frozen thinking about everything and have got very little sleep since - does anyone feel the same or am I incredibly cooked for the biggest exams of my life ?

Hi there,

Exams can feel so overwhelming and stressful and I'm sure many people around you are panicking as well. I remember stressing that I had not done well enough after my English A Level exams as I was thinking about all of the things that I did not write in the exam but it all worked out in the end and it went better than I thought. If you thought the questions were mean, chances are other people found it exactly the same. It sounds like you've been working hard and revising which is all you can do and I'm sure it will pay off. Exams will be over soon and you can enjoy summer without having to think about exams and content again.

Good luck with the rest of your exams!

Hi @Funkygazeebo ,

I'm sorry to hear you are panicking about your next exam. I see you have already had some great advice, and I completely agree.

Most people would also have found it difficult if you feel the questions were quite harsh. When I was doing A-levels, worrying about papers I had already completed was a consistent issue, with most people feeling the exact same and over analysing their performance. The exams are meant to be challenging, so please do not feel worried if you struggled/struggle, everyone will be in a similar boat.

The most important lesson I learnt doing my A-levels is once I had done a paper, just move onto the next rather than thinking back on my responses, comparing with others and more. Focus on entirely yourself and look ahead.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
