Hi,

Congrats on both your offers! They're both great courses at amazing universities. The main thing to navigate here is choosing which of those courses you would prefer to study - remember, you'll be studying this course for 3 years so make sure it's something you know you'll enjoy. In terms of career prospects, you don't need an undergraduate law degree to go into the law field, so choosing International Relations and later opting to do law isn't an issue.

I suggest going through both the relevant pages and seeing which course and content appeals to you more - ask yourself, what would I rather be learning about for the next 3 years?

https://www.qmul.ac.uk/undergraduate/coursefinder/courses/2025/law/ - Law at Queen Mary
https://www.kcl.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/international-relations-ba - International Relations at Kings

I also suggest booking a campus tour at both universities and seeing the feel of the campus as this may also influence your decision. You can also reach out to people on LinkedIn who have studied these courses at the universities and hear their experiences.
Best of luck 🙂

Are you actually interested in either of these subjects. I ask this because you seem over focussed on the Uni brand name and whatever you think 'prestige' means. Wherever you go, you will be studying this subject every day for the next three years - that's a long time to be miserable because you made the wrong decision.

If you really are this unsure about why you are doing any of this, then step back. Cancel your UCAS application, plan a gap year, and rethink what you want to do with your life, and why. Uni will still be there, and you could even reapply to the same Unis and for the same subjects if you wanted to.
Hi there,

As has been said by SOAS - just focus on what you want to study rather than worrying too much about where. You should primarily focus on the contents of each course, whether they align with your interests, and have things in you want to learn. You don't have to know what you want to do yet (I didn't!) - just go with what you think would open up doors to you to things you find interesting. Also check out if either have placement opportunities. Proverbial prestige will not tell you how much you will personally enjoy each uni and therefore which is right for you.

I'd also consider which part of London you'd like to live in. As the unis are quite close together you'd be able to get the bus/underground/train around London and see similar kinds of things in the city - but perhaps check out where students typically choose to live after first year and what there is to do around there.

Have you been to these open days? Met any student ambassadors? Which uni did you feel had the nicest atmosphere?

I hope some of this helps, best of luck.

I'd choose based on the career paths available, even though I applied to both those Unis too. Both are good Unis so you are probs guaranteed a good career either way. Queen Mary will open up a law career and be a good transferable skill for other industries like business. KCL for International relations will probs get you civil service or academic. I think as a safety net go with Queen Mary's law degree because its a really valuable transferable skill.

Hey there 😃

First of all, huge congratulations on receiving your offers! 🎉

I’d recommend starting by thinking carefully about the course itself. If you’re feeling unsure, that could be your gut instinct trying to tell you something important. It’s so worth taking a moment to reflect and make sure that International Relations is truly something you're passionate about. Studying a subject you’re not genuinely interested in can quickly become a struggle. Try visualising your ideal job. What kind of work would you be doing? What issues would you care about? Getting clarity on that can help guide your decision. You could also chat with a career or university advisor at your school. They're great at helping you unpack your thoughts and discover what suits you best 🎯

As for choosing between universities, attending Open Days is incredibly helpful. They give you the chance to feel the vibe of the campus, meet students and staff, and see what each university offers firsthand. If that’s not possible, definitely explore their websites. Look into how they structure the International Relations course, as content and focus often vary from one university to another.

And don’t forget to check out the career development opportunities each uni offers! Things like placement years, internships, student exchange programs, and international trips can make a big difference when it comes to building experience and landing a great job after graduation 🌍

I hope it will be helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,
