Social Media check Uni Application

I've heard that uni's will look through your social media, when you apply, using some sort of website that can pull your social media using something like just your email. Is this true? In general, will they do this?

As well as this, I may have posted some activities on a private Instagram account which aren't illegal- but I wouldn't want people deciding my career seeing. Is it alright if these are on a private Instagram account or can they get past that?

Many thanks.

Never heard of UK unis doing this. They have far too many applicants to be caring about your private social media accounts!

We really do not have time to endlessly wade through teenagers social media accounts.
Worry about something else.

Yeah where did you hear this? 🤣 Unis don't care about your personal life or devote time to hacking applicants.

Some employers do go snooping however but it's rare, tbh any employer who would make a choice on hiring me based on out of context social media scraps is one I wouldn't be keen to work for anyway.

Thanks for your replies people!
I had been told this by a doctor a while back about universities but he is obviously just making it up.
