Exeter accommodation Neuroscience

Hi, I start in September in Exeter for Neuroscience (currently in a gap year) and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which accommodation to pick? I want a relatively lively flat with a good social atmosphere and this is really important to me.
I’m thinking:
1: East Park en-suite
2: New Lafrowda
3: East Park standard room (no en-suite)

And I’m unsure what to put for my 4th option. Because my course is split between Streatham and St Luke’s I wanted to be on the east side of campus to make it easier, however, I have heard that Birks Grange is a good accommodation but the hill is very steep on the way out and it’s further away from St Luke’s. I’ve also heard of Rowe house but I’ve heard it’s a lot quieter than the others and I want something decently lively. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Anonymous!

Thank you for your question! Congratulations on your offer and I hope you'll greatly enjoy your time studying in Exeter.

In terms of picking out accommodation, there's quite a bit you may be thinking about whether that's if you want to be close to campus, whether you want single sex accommodation or if you want an ensuite room. Before applying, I looked on Tiktok and Youtube to gain a feel for the sort of living experience I could expect in accommodations and, as East Park and Lafrowda are extremely popular, you'll probably find a lot of content around that!

I have had friends that lived in both East Park and Lafrowda and they have said that both accommodations offer many opportunities for a lively social life. They're also practically a 5 minute walk away from each other, so if you end up getting one, you won't be missing out on social life in the other accommodation building as it's just around the corner!

I would say that Birks is definitely a social hotspot, vibrant community and has a wide range of facilities available, including its own shop near reception. There is also an alternative road that you can walk through to avoid the hill by Birks and lots of students choose to use this path to campus instead (me included)!

I've heard very good things about Rowe House - friendly people and proximity to campus - and it is also within a very close proximity to Lafrowda!

As I can see, you have already started considering on what side of campus you would like to live in and seeing as you would want accommodation closer to the St Luke's side of campus, I would highly recommend having your options be situated on the east side of campus. Additionally, it may be helpful to have an option that is close to St Luke's!

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask!

Thank you for your reply!
Would you recommend staying on the east side of campus instead of the West side for someone whose course is on both Streatham and St Luke’s?
Also does Rowe House have a good social aspect?

Hi Anonymous!

That is something that I would recommend for someone that is studying on both campuses! There is also a bus stop very close to the accommodation that goes between Streatham and St Luke's, so not only will you be on one of your campuses, you'll also have an easy transport link to the other one. Furthermore, I think what makes the accommodation on the east side great is that there are many others nearby, which makes for a great social aspect as you wouldn't have to travel far to see your friends, particularly the case for Rowe House.
