Birmingham City Media n Coms

Seen lots of mixed reviews about BCU, just wondering how people rate the Media and Communications course
As a first choice I'd love to do photography, but media seems like a lot more of a wide-ended course, meaning id have more job options in the long run, my two favourite unis so far are bath spa and brum so just wanted to see if BCU is as bad as some people say it is

Hi @missmeentirely

Hope you’re doing well. I know it can be a bit confusing when you see mixed reviews online, but from my experience as a current student at BCU, there’s a lot of positive stuff that doesn’t always get mentioned.

BCU has been really supportive throughout my time here. There are different departments beyond your course that are there to help. For example, Careers+ for employment and placements, and other teams who support with wellbeing, academic skills, and assignments. I’ve personally found the support from staff good, and the lecturers are approachable and want you to do well.

The Media and Communications course covers a wide range of topics, so it gives you the chance to explore different areas while developing practical and creative skills.

The university is also in a great location, close to Birmingham New Street, and the campuses are easy to get to by tram, bus, or even on foot. There’s a real mix of people here, and lots of societies and activities to get involved in if that’s your thing.

At the end of the day, no university is perfect, but it’s about what environment suits you best. If you can, I’d recommend visiting both universities and chatting directly with students on the course on an open day. That way, you’ll get a proper feel for what suits you. Hope that helps a bit!
