UEA Psychology exams

Hi All
I am currently a first psychology student at UEA. We only have one exam this year but it’s really stressing me out. Does anyone know how many exams are in second and third year?

Hi!
Firstly, I just wanted to say you're not alone in being stressed out for exams!!
Just make sure you aren't going all out with revision and ensuring you are having breaks, eating well, exercising, and still doing the things you enjoy!
In terms of exams in second and third year, you can have a look at the modules you're taking next year (and what you'd like to take in third year) on evision and see how they're assessed. This gives you an idea of how many exams you'd have. (Just make sure you look at which semesters they're in!) For example, if a module is just coursework based (CW), you can assume no exams.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any more questions!
Good Luck with your exam, I'm sure you'll smash it!
Fatma.

Hi @Anonymous # 1

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling stressed about your upcoming exam.
In terms of the number of exams in second and third year, this would likely be on the course profile where you can see all the modules you are taking and likely they will state whether there is an exam. Here is the course webpage: https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/bsc-psychology. When you scroll down you can see individual modules. You could also get in contact with module leaders for the upcoming year and see what the exam situation is.
I see that for psychology after the first year you get some optional modules, so you could look at the exam/coursework situation for these and pick those accordingly and also see the modules that you are most interested in!
Additionally you could enquire with your course director or academic supervisor, as they would be happy to help. 🙂
If you have further worries regarding exam stress or help you can contact the student information zone or pop in on campus to them to discuss further. Here is the email: [email protected]

Also if you have any further questions please let me know 🙂

Hey - I'm graduating this year and didn't do one exam throughout my time at UEA. (Disclaimer I'm a psych student like you)
Second year I remember doing four models split in half during the year (Semester 1 = social and developmental, Semester 2 = cog and bio I think 🙈 - all of these were assessed via essays) and I did a placement year so I had the placement module but if you aren't on this then I think they call it applied A or B (the placement assignment was a report - not scientific but a job report on a potential placement position). We also had CHIPS which was all year and assessed via an essay.

Also there was a research module over the course of the year - with ANOVA'S for the first two assignments (one way ANOVA as the formative and two way ANOVA as the summative ). These were based on the Müller-Lyer illusion and the Mozart effect but I can't remember which way round, I think the Mozart effect was the two way ANOVA. The third assignment was a multiple regression on ADHD and criminality + another variable of choice (based on group work) and the fourth was a thematic analysis based on a qualitative interview we had to conduct (one person person in a group of around 5), this was semi-structured and we had to come up with a topic and questions based on a three different prompts.

However I did a placement year so this was back in 2022/2023 - things may have changed.

Having now completed my final year all my modules were essay/project assessed - I'm pretty sure when they get you to decide your modules they'll state which/if any are assessed via exams. The dissertation module is double weighted and takes up a big chunk of time - use your supervisor wisely. Altogether the four modules are worth 20 points each, with the dissertation being 40 on your final mark for third year.

I hope this eases you somewhat - again this is from my experience only and so the course may have been tweaked slightly. Uni goes so quickly - my advice is to really pay attention to the research as most of your work is independent on your dissertation so you need to know what you're doing. But you've got this, enjoy it!
