SFE for 2nd Undergraduate Degree

Hi SFE Team,

I hold a bachelors degree which is completed. I was looking at retraining and studying either Beng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire part-time. Would I be eligible for funding for the tuition fees for these courses? Also, if I enter at Year 2 or 3 of the programme, does my tuition fee eligibility change? Such as I do an apprenticeship to gain a level 4 qualification and decided to continue my studies to top up this qualification with funding from SFE.
Is this possible?

Many thanks

Hi there, please confirm the following information:
Is this a Full Time or Part Time course?
How many years is the new course in total?
How many years of previous study do you have?
When are you planning to start your studies?
Thank you, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

I would be studying the course part-time
The new course total would be 6 years
I have done 4 years of study - 3 years bachelors plus placement year
I would be looking to start in 2026

Thank you!

thank you for confirming, firstly I will need to base this on the 25/26 application, that's fine, but I would ask that you check the eligibility again from the next launch if this for a course for the 26/27 academic year.
So basing it on the current application criteria: 25/26 Academic Year: University of Hertfordshire

Funding Level: Undergraduate
Study Mod: Part-time
Course name: Civil Engineering
Qualification: Bachelor Degree with Honours
Duration: 3 Years full-time equivalent duration

Funding Level: Undergraduate
Study Mode: Part-time
Course name: Mechanical Engineering
Qualification: Bachelor Degree with Honours
Duration: 3 Years full-time equivalent duration

To qualify as an exception the course must be one of the following levels:

- part time honours degree
- joint honours degree
- integrated masters degree.

So either of these courses would be classed as a part time exception course.
But again, please have this checked at the time of the new academic year application launch.
Thanks, Stephen.
