Clearing?

I have offers from Sheffield and Newcastle but I regret not applying to Durham. If I get grades that match the subject requirements for that course, is there any harm in applying through clearing them?

Hey
I think you should go for it if you like Durham university plus there's no harm in applying through clearing if you've got the grades, do what you think is best!! Good luck!!!

Its perfectly normal to start getting cold-feet at this point and wondering if you have made the right choices.
You hadn't said which degree subject you are applying for, but Durham is not going to get you a 'better' degree than either Sheffield or Newcastle. And, you have no idea if Durham will need to be in Clearing for that subject, or if you will even get the grades required. Stop worrying. Focus on your A levels. Do the exams, Get to Results Day, and stop over-thinking this.
Durham are very risky for clearing. In previous years they’ve sat on clearing applications for a week before rejecting them.

Durham rarely have to enter clearing. Best to apply next year and take a gap year

Hey @Jemimahbeatrice!

Firstly congratulations on both of your offers! Can I ask what subject you applied for?

I went through a similar process but the other way round and ended up at Sheffield instead of a different university. I understand the doubt and uncertainty that can develop in this period, especially when waiting for results. I highly recommend going to the offer holder days/open days available if possible to get a proper idea of what each university is like. If, after your research, you are still looking to apply to Durham please be aware that this means you will have to reject the offers you currently have in order to go into clearing. Hence this means there is no guarantee Sheffield would re install you offer if needed. I recommend getting in touch with the admissions team on this page: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/clearing for some more info.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions about Sheffield please let me know!

Thanks, yeah I'm applying for Sociology and Politics and I was wondering if I get better grades than predicted I could apply to the combined honours course. The reason I want to go to Durham now is because I live here and I love the city compared to Sheffield, I am familiar with it so there's less anxiety about things and I just want to experience college life as well as uni.

Are they open for your course in Extra?

Hiya!

Yes of course I completely understand that, choosing the right city for yourself is so important. Good luck with the rest of your application process and please get in touch if you have any questions about Sheffield or uni!
