How to memorise long poems

Reply 1

Don't - it's a waste of time.
You just need to memorise a couple of quotes from a few key poems and have a basic idea of what the rest of the poems are about w/ a minor amount of context + a rough idea of analysis for one quote that you can expand upon in the exam.

You should practise planning and/or writing poetry comparisons instead as that will be how the question is presented to you. Plus it tests your ability to write and analyse under pressure, since there's very little time in English exams

How to memorise long poems

Hi,

I find the best way to tackle a long poem is to break it down into small parts. Highlight and analyse each section and then create revision cards or mind maps with your key ideas and quotes to remember.

Small, achievable goals is your best friend and makes a big problem so much easier🤩

I hope this helped, good luck
