You'll definitely miss out on some opportunities but I wouldn't worry too much. You'll have the people you live with to gel with (hopefully) as a baseline and realistically most friendships form after freshers week. Freshers is where everyone gets thrown at the wall together. The next few months are where you find out who sticks. Just make sure to go out and do stuff with societies etc once you get there late

Why do you think that you will miss it?

Hi there,

Please don't worry about missing Freshers' Week. While it's a fun introduction to university life, it's certainly not the only opportunity to form meaningful connections. Throughout the academic year, you'll have many other chances to meet people through your courses, societies, social events, and study groups. You will probably make much more friendships naturally over time rather than during the first week. Focus on joining in when you arrive - there will be plenty of opportunities waiting for you.

Let me know if you have any questions,

WHY are you potentially missing this first week?

Hi Anon,
As llya was saying - you'll have many opportunities other than just that first work to meet new people! I commuted during my first year and found there was a variety of both daytime and evening events still running after Freshers - also thought worth pointing out that usually a lot of societies are aware everyone's schedules are already full to the brim during that week so plan the first taster sessions the week after!
Youll find that for the first semester your running into new people so i wouldn't stress, with a little less constantly happening people will also have more free time and you'll be plan a bit more with the people you meet! 😊

Best of luck!!

Why? It may well delay your loan as you'll enrol late.

Because it is my insurance choice that has freshers week right on the time where i’m out of the country and I cannot postpone it - so if i don’t get into my firm choice i will miss freshers week!

Why didn't you think about this before you booked whatever it is? Nothing should be planned for September

You need to speak to the university concerned. Some will not permit late enrolment/registration. Others you may miss critical introductory or induction sessions (health and safety training on labs/workshops/equipment) which will prevent you from taking part in other work.

The social side of freshers is optional. The formal sessions to register and start your course are not.

You can still change your replies to choose a different insurance university.

Inept planning on your part.
If that's just for a holiday, then you really do have to work out your priorities.

Hi there!

In terms of social activities, while there are fun things on in freshers week, you will still have lots of opportunities at other times to go to fun events, join societies and meet people! Everything that you can do in freshers week, you can still do another time so I wouldn't worry about this too much.

If you have social media, you could join some groups on Facebook and see if you can find some of your flat mates. This way they will still know you and you can say you are coming the week after so they know to expect you still!

With the academic side, you might want to contact your uni just so they know you will be coming the week after. Most universities will be understanding, but it is worth telling them just in case! Sometimes in freshers week there will be sessions to attend so it is a good idea to tel them you cannot do this.

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.
