Have you actually applied to UCAS this year.
Do you already hold offers.
Foundation years or for main degree.

Hello everyone. I would like to ask where the best possible place to be to decide on a foundation year for Politics upcoming 2025 entry. I will not be able to complete my resit year as I have become extremely ill (unfortunate waste of a year, but the first half was well spent). It was such a shame as I had studied so hard and have sat my first exam already, but have now been advised to just look for a foundation year entry instead.
In all honesty, I do hope to be able to transfer to another university after my foundation, and am curious to know at which university, would be the best way of doing this. I know also, it is not definite, and so I need to consider the status of each uni out of my options. And for a background check:
- I have 72 UCAS points (was predicted 136 this time around, and my English exam did go much better than last year grrrrrr :frown: and for this reason I cannot look at Surrey/UEA/Leeds as I tried last year and they said I could not as I was 2 marks away from a C in one of my subjects
- Sussex (I got into last year, but decided to resit, feels slightly awkward to go back, basically wasted a year)
- I would like to do a foundation year at a university based on its depth within modules, as when it comes to transferring, I would want the knowledge in depth in relation to the course
- If possible, the most reputable for Politics and higher ranked
UWE Bristol: (Essentials of Academic Practice, Exploring the Social World and the Problems of Crime, From Plato to Nato) (48 UCAS points)
Essex: (Exploring the World through Data, Research and Academic Skills for University, Understanding People and Society,
Knowing your World from Language to Politics) (72 UCAS points)
Swansea: (Academic Writing and Skills Development, Introduction to being Human, Introduction to Research, Critical
Reflection and Problem Solving, Research Essay and Social Science) (72-80 UCAS points)
Manchester Met: (Academic Practice for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Modern Britain since 1945, Introduction to Politics, Key Case Studies in International Relations, Philosophical Responses to the Contemporary World, Sociology Today) / Optional (Unwide Languages - ab initio) (72-80 UCAS points)
Sussex: Foundation year in Social Sciences (Academic Development for Social Sciences 1, Local Lives: Identifying Global studies, Order and Disorder A: Understanding Law, Politics and Sociology, Academic Development for Social Sciences 2, Global Issues: Researching the Global, Order and Disorder B: Understanding Law, Politics and Sociology (lots of optional) (CDD but goes down to DEE on clearing)
And when it comes to transferring universities, I just want to layout that my expectations are not the top Russell group universities. I want to study Politics (and/or English/Journalism) so have been looking at Cardiff, York and Queens Uni Belfast mostly.
Many thanks for your help everyone. I want to finally get ahead with my education and revoke this year out of education, and put all that resit revision somewhere worthy than not do anything. This Summer I am gonna complete some more projects within English Lit and some Politics work experience to keep my head up!
For anyone else in a similar situation, keep working, because there is a place for everyone. Grades do not define you and always credit how hard you work. My biggest fault with A Levels is the anxiety that comes with timed conditions, and 'Pens down, times up'. 90% of your employable experiences will not ever contain this.

Hi there,

Really sorry to hear about your situation, that sounds really tough

When it comes to transfers each university will most likely have their own process, so my best recommendation is to just email the universities and ask about their in-year transfer policy. You've said that Cardiff is one of the universities that you were looking at for transfers, so contacting the admissions team through this page might be beneficial.

Best wishes for your academic journey!
