Disclosing all qualifications for UCAS

Hi, I’m a year 12 and on Thursday I sat the real AS maths exam, but I know I’ve completely bombed it and paper 2 won’t save me from an atrocious grade. To contextualise this, I’m the only person in my school who sat this exam and there was very little support from the school (for example I’m having to teach myself all of the stats content by myself now as my maths class has only just started it now even though my exam is this Friday). I was doing 4 a levels and an EPQ and I knew I wanted to drop something. I thought that I could drop maths and still get a qualification out of it (regretting that now obviously). But I’ve been reading around and is it true that I will HAVE to put this grade down for my ucas application? Won’t it make me look really bad, even if I’m predicted all A*’s for my other 3 subjects? I’m afraid it’s going to look as though I did the exam, did badly and gave up with it.

Thanks for reading!

Univercitys mainly look at 3 A level grades to determine your suitability. It will depend on what subjects you are applying to uni for whether your AS is taken into major consideration.

Thanks for this! What if I’m applying to something like biomedicine where maths isn’t required but is preferred? Will a low AS grade in maths make them less likely to give me an offer than if I hadn’t done it at all?

I think that for a subject where its not required but preferred, ensuring you meet the university's requirements for grades like GCSEs and other qualifactions will determine this. If their website doesn't mention an A level or AS needed, then so long as you meet the GCSE requirement you should be alright. I supose it become subjective on the uni whether it is affecting your application.

If I remember correctly, that would count as fraudulent as they do ask for all your qualifications - I am not sure how far they enforce this, but it's probably not best to test it.
I think Universities should consider your qualifications additively more than anything. As long as you have your three relevant A-levels you've ticked their boxes. An extra AS of whatever grade is beside the point.
The volume of applications will be so high that I shouldn't think uni applications teams have the time to overthink why someone has a low grade in an irrelevant subject.

1) You must declare all qualifications. This would otherwise be fraudulent - something UCAS and all Unis take very seriously, and can lead to your application being cancelled.

2) Don't worry. You may have done far better than you thin so don't overthink this, and wait for your actual results. Even if a course 'prefers' A level Maths, that doesnt mean that a low AS Maths grades would be am automatic deal breaker. Unis will always be far more interested in your 3 A level grades than EPQa and extra AS.
