Cambridge Med international optional study period?

Hi
I am currently looking at prospective universities to apply to for medicine. On Cambridge medicine course information (https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/medicine-mb-bchir), it says there is an optional study abroad period:
"In Year 5 there is an opportunity to go abroad for 7 weeks. If you do, the estimated cost is around £3,000. College and national grants may be available to help you cover these costs."

Just wondering what this would entail, and would like to hear if anyone has any valuable experiences of doing international optional study period for medicine (at Cambridge or elsewhere), and if you would recommend it.
