Slightly late submission

Hi everyone, I’m feeling quite anxious and could really use some advice. I had a PMC approved for one of my assignments, which gave me an extended deadline until Friday at 4:00pm.

I submitted on that new deadline day, but I was 8 minutes late (uploaded at 4:08pm). Now I’m really worried will this delay mean my mark gets capped, even though the extension was approved?

Has anyone had experience with being slightly late on a PMC deadline? Not sure how flexible they are with this kind of thing. For reference I’m studying in university of Salford.

Hi there!

I think there may be some Salford reps on here that could give you a more confident answer, but unfortunately I think you might have to take a reduction in marks for being late, but I'm not too certain as different Universities have different rules regarding late submission.

For example, on my course at LJMU, we get 5 points docked for each DAY that work is submitted late, but I think any minute late on submission day classes as the first day being late, so 5 marks would be docked even if something were submitted 5 minutes late. If it is the same at your uni, I would guess that you would get around 5 points taken roughly. Some Universities are a lot stricter though so hopefully yours isn't one of those!

However, I would get in touch with either your head of course/module or the person marking your work, as they might be able to be a bit more flexible with the mark deduction as you were less than 10 minutes late submitting, especially if you were granted an extension - I would get in touch sooner rather than later though.

Good luck!

You should check your universities or faculties regulations, every institution I’ve studied or worked at missing a deadline for an extension leads to the standard missed deadline penalty.

That said penalties vary, some institutions ive seen a miss like this would lead to a 5% penalty mark, others would lead to it automatically being capped at 40%, and others ive seen this in itself would trigger a failed assignment. You should consult your universities policies ultimately that will indicate likely outcomes.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve already mailed the student advice team of my uni but yet to hear anything from them. I’m dreading that i might just be capped at 50 pass mark😩

Hiya!

Hopefully you'll hear back from someone first thing Monday morning. Everyone’s already shared some really helpful advice, and as mentioned, each university can vary slightly in how strict they are with deadlines

It might also be worth reaching out to your tutor if you haven’t already, just for clarification.

Try not to stress too much, we all make small mistakes sometimes, and this can be a valuable learning curve. Going forward, double-checking deadlines and giving yourself a bit of a buffer can really help avoid last-minute panic.

Have you reviewed your universities regulations/policies? This should be step 1

Hello,

Apologies about the delay in response to this, I know it can be stressful and anxious times when it comes to deadlines and handing in assessments. Unfortunately I would not be able to confidently answer this query, but I can point you in the direction of those who can.

You need to speak to the school office of the subject you are studying. Make sure to have your student ID present before calling as they will ask for this as a reference to identify you quickly.

I would love to provide the number but I am not sure what subject you are studying, so instead just google "phone number for salford university school office of ....." and it should tell you the answer.

Best of luck with this and I am sorry I could not help more.
