Studying Abroad - Costs, the process and what it's like.

I'm currently in my first year of college (coming to the end of it) and I'm looking at studying a full degree abroad in a years time.
I'm confused on the process in which I'd need to go through, what sources of funding I'd be looking at (student loans?, private loans?) and whether or not the experience of doing a full degree abroad is better than just doing a domestic degree with a sandwich year. And such, I'm hoping anyone here that has done it themselves can help me out.
Thanks!
Any advice helps!

In personally have no experience with a year abroad (currently doing A-Level exams rn) but I did research studying abroad in depth as I was struggling to pick between that or a year in industry. This can vary between university so if there's an open day at some point I'd find a staff member to ask. Typically, sometime in second year you decide officially whether you want to do a year abroad, they also don't usually count towards your degree but are useful for experience especially with languages or culture focused degrees. You do still have to pay a tuition fee (it is a reduced amount) and I believe you can also still get maintenance loan. I've even heard of people combining the two and doing work experience abroad for the best of both worlds.
Apologies I can't pass on personal experience but hope this helps

Hi there,

I don't have much knowledge about completing a full degree abroad, but I have done a year abroad.

As per the previous response, it is likely that you will have a reduced tuition fee, still be eligible for a maintenance loan, and may be eligible for further funding (e.g., Turing Scheme). It is a great opportunity to take if you are interested! I'd be happy to do my best to answer any questions you have about this.

For studying a full degree abroad, this depends on where you are looking to go. Requirements and processes will vary. Research on the universities you are interested in is essential, as you need to understand all of the entry requirements, necessary paperwork, and any funding you can secure. If you have a good idea of where you'd like to go, you may be able to find resources online (e.g., blogs, step-by-steps) on the processes needed for international students.

Don't be afraid to contact universities too - they will be able to provide you with the most accurate information on the application processes and what steps you will need to complete.

I hope this helps,

Isabella
