hey guys!!! Taking English lit a level and was wondering if anyone else did Gabriel Okara’s collected poems for paper 4? And any tips??

hey sophie tomson! I also took english a level literature last year and happened to do okara as part of the course it really wasn’t my favourite. However my top tips are to look closely into analysing his use of language, especially imagery and symbolism rooted in Nigerian culture and postcolonial identity. Focus on how Okara explores themes such as tradition vs modernity, alienation, and the clash between African and Western values. Pay attention to tone and voice—many of his poems have a reflective or critical stance. Compare poems to identify recurring motifs, like nature or language loss. Finally, always link technical analysis (like diction, structure, and rhythm) to the poem’s deeper meanings and context. Do all of this and you will do swimmingly!! You seem invested in your english so trust me I believe in you! - Beatrice (Bea bea) for short!
