Will getting a C in nat 5 French affect Uni?

Sitting here, french is tomorrow and to be honest I have no hope, I think I should get a C, maybe B at a big stretch as I done okay on my speaking and folio but its pretty bad anyways. I am not taking French to higher and I want to do mechanical engineering at uni which doesnt require French. Could this possibly put them off of accepting me or am I overthinking it. Just trying to ease my mind before the exam

Most unis do not look at National 5's except the core subjects like Maths and English, and I presume for Mechanical Engineering they would possibly look at Physics. The most important thing is to do well in your Highers as that is what Scottish Unis look at.

The important thing is what you get in your Highers. What you get in your Nat 5s is important in that it gives you an indication of how you are going to do in that subject at Higher, but what the university looks at is your grades in Highers rather than your Nat 5s. Especially if the course is not especially related to your degree.

it's not about 'doesn't require french' all ur subjects matter. just because u take higher pe in s5 doesn't necessarily mean u NEED pe for engineering. all subjects matter, at the end of the day getting 5 a's in pe and arts and a science + mathyou can still get into ur desired course with those entry requirements as they still count as valid subjects. if u dont have the minimum entry req, u cant appyl

Hey Oscar,
totally get how you're feeling the stress the night before is real lol😅
But honestly, if the universities you’re applying to don’t require a certain number of N5's at specific grades, and French isn’t part of the entry requirements for your course, then it really shouldn’t matter. Admissions are usually focused on the subjects that relate to the course and the overall entry grades they're asking for (like your Highers and Advanced Highers).

French is still a great extra to have! - just like how working a part-time job or doing volunteering doesn't link directly to your degree but still shows valuable skills. It won't put them off, it’s more of an added bonus if anything.

You’ve got this- give it your best and then move on knowing you’ve done what you can. (:
