Mature student crowd at Uni of Sheffield?
Is there much of a mature student crowd at sheffield? Would I struggle to find other undergrads in their early 20s?

Hi Lauren,
I am a postgrad student who has been studying at Sheffield for nearly four years now and I can honestly say it is so diverse and made up of such a range of ages. There has always been many mature students on my course and a real mixture of individuals, so I would not worry about this at all!
I would say a great idea is to join the mature students society, to get to know other mature students, even when they may not be on your course. They also do fun socials and events, which can always be an added bonus to the university life.
I also would recommend joining Facebook group chats, not only for the university generally but also the mature students ones, so you can get chatting before you start in September. I found this to be really helpful in breaking the ice early!
Also, you can chat to some of our ambassadors on our website (including myself), where you can search for mature students and chat about their personal experiences as an undergrad, this may be helpful

Finding other mature students is not an issue at The University of Sheffield. I'm a mature student aged 30 and started at Sheffield in September 2025. There's also a Society at Sheffield especially for Mature Students and I'm the president
