If you're considering applying for nursing at university amazing! Nursing is an incredibly rewarding and dynamic career, and choosing the right course and discipline is a big step. To help you get started, our nursing lecturers are here to help with their top tips to make sure you’re fully informed and feel confident about your decision.

1. Do your background research
There’s more than one type of nursing! Whether it’s adult, child, mental health, or learning disability nursing take the time to explore each field and think about what best suits your interests and strengths.

2. Check out the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional standards
This is a great way to get insight into the key skills, behaviours and expectations of a nurse. It can help you understand what’s involved in the role and whether it aligns with your goals.

3. Explore the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
The RCN offers valuable resources, career advice, and a real window into the nursing profession. It’s a brilliant place to learn more about what it’s really like to be a nurse.

4. Take a deep dive into our nursing webpages - Find them here.
Each course is different so it’s worth looking into the modules, structure, practice hours, and placement opportunities we offer. The more informed you are, the more confident you’ll feel when applying.

5. Come visit us at an Open Day!
Our open days are a fantastic way to meet lecturers, current students, and get a feel for our facilities. You can ask all your questions face-to-face and find out more about our placements and partnerships.
