Law UCAS Extra

I am applying to Law through UCAS Extra but i am not sure which uni to apply to im between Queen Mary, Leeds and Nottingham. I meet all the entry requirements but I am unsure on which to choose.

I am not sure, becuase of the expense in London as it will be too expensive for accomdation etc, but it is a reall good ranked university.

Nottingham is really good, but is sort of far from where im willing to go.

Leeds i have heard nothing about , but is close and cheaper accomdation.

initally i would love to go queen mary, but wont be able to afford it in the long run.

Your target unis are good.

If you can't decide from the usual "positive" way, i.e. choosing the uni you like the most, you may think in the "reversed" way, by eliminating the least favored uni.

Financial constraint could not be easily resolved. If you cannot sustain the costs, Queen Mary would be a no go.

Think again whether Nottingham is really that far away? What is the additional journey time compared to Leeds? Pick Nottingham if you could stand with it, Leeds otherwise.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply, I very much appreciate it. Could I ask however, if we wasnt looking at affordability and distance for these universities, which would be first university that would be good to apply for first, and which would you say I should try last. As with UCAS extra im only allowed one option unless I dont get accepted i will have to apply to another.

With Queen Mary, its not necessarily about the affordability of living there its more of accomodation which I think I would stuggle with if its more than say 230 pounds a week, and i know that nottingham and leeds have much cheaper accomodation. I just have to take everything into consideration, however if Queen Mary say is the best out of all 3 than I would not mind going there, i will work etc. If that makes sense. I have looked into modules of the 3 universities offering the LLB and I really like them all, so its more just the other factors I am having to consider now.

If you have any information on this i would greatly appretiate it as i want to apply to one of those 3 as soon as possible.

Either Leeds or Nottingham.
QMUL is a ) expensive b) in Bethnal Green - not the best area of London.

Hey there!

Totally understand where you’re coming from, choosing between great unis like Queen Mary, Leeds, and Nottingham can be tough, especially when finances and distance play such a big role.

As a current Law student and a student ambassador, I’d say it’s really important to balance prestige with what’s realistic and sustainable for you. Queen Mary is a brilliant university with a solid law department, but London living costs especially accommodation and travel can really stack up. A lot of students underestimate how much of an impact that can have on your experience over three years. If you're already worried about affording it, it might end up adding unnecessary stress later on.

Nottingham is excellent academically and well-regarded for Law too, but if you're not keen on going that far, you might find yourself feeling isolated or wanting to come home more than expected which adds to travel costs and emotional fatigue.

Leeds could be a solid middle ground accommodation is cheaper, it's closer to home, and the university still has a good reputation. Just because you haven’t heard much about it doesn’t mean it's not a strong choice. Sometimes the quieter options end up being the most balanced and rewarding.

Also, just to give you another perspective have you considered The University of Law (ULaw)? It’s a specialist law school and has campuses all over the UK including Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, and London (Bloomsbury and Moorgate). That way, you could get a solid legal education while choosing a location that suits your financial and personal situation better. ULaw also has strong links with employers, an excellent careers service, and offers a very practice-focused approach to Law, which can be helpful if you're looking to go straight into legal training or even the SQE after your LLB.

At the end of the day, go for the uni where you’ll be supported and comfortable. You’ll do your best when you’re not constantly worrying about finances or distance. Hope that helps, all the best!
