Can I go from a 2 in yr10 to a 6 in yr11

I’m working at a grade 2 in foundation maths, and hoping to achieve at least a 6 in yr11. Has anyone been in this position and have been able to achieve this?

You cant get a 6 in foundation maths as it only goes up to 5, if you want a 6 you need to move up to higher set and learn content now in hopes to get the six

I’m hoping to get a 5 in November mocks of yr11, and then try and convince my teacher to move me to higher tier

Since ur in year 10 you have time. Make sure you work hard in the summer then if you show massive improvement you can then ask for higher tier. but warning as there are newish content in higher so you will have to work hard. but honestly anything is possible! just work hard and you can do it!!

I would say doable (note, I never said easy) but ultimately it falls on your teacher if they feel like you could do it as long story short, if your teacher feels like you are at risk of failing your GCSE, they will not risk putting you in the higher tier exam if you can pass at foundation level.

Just to give an example, at A Level, the only grade I achieved was a D in Biology (I failed in both maths and chemistry) but managed to graduate from uni with a 2.1 and a Masters with Merit (both in biomedical science and ironically my specialism is in clinical biochemistry despite me failing chemistry at A level...).

It’s all down to how you revise and learning what works best for you as, long story short, my teacher’s revision and teaching methods didn’t help me in exam technique AT ALL, only when I got to uni did I manage to learn that… but again, that’s because I learned what was best for me rather than be taught a method which simply didn’t work for me! 🙂

Best of luck!

In theory yes you can go from a 2 to a 6 in a subject within a year. Many people start from scratch and learn a whole new subject within a year, so of course it's possible.
However convincing your school to move you from foundation to higher tier will be difficult, and if they don't move you up relatively quickly you won't be given the opportunity to even practice the higher material.

You should watch YouTube walkthrough videos, they’ll show you how to do the questions. Or you could get tuition for a while, if possible
