Career Change After First Degree–Can I Get Student Finance for Nursing or Nutrition?

Hi everyone,
I graduated in 2021 with a degree in Business and HR. I now want to change my career and go back to university full-time. I'm interested in studying either:

BSc Mental Health Nursing: https://www.londonmet.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/nursing-mental-health---bsc-hons/

Or a Nutrition and Health course.

I’m a bit confused about student finance. Since I already have a degree, can I still get tuition fee and maintenance loans to study one of these courses? I’d like to focus completely on my studies without working.

Has anyone been through something similar or know how it works?

Thank you!

Hi there,

I have enclosed a list of our exception courses below confirming the courses at part time and full time that are eligible for funding without previous qualifications or years being counted.https://www.heinfo.slc.co.uk/resources/guidance/courses-management-service-user-guide/eligibility/equivalent-or-lower-qualification-elq-exceptions/english-domiciled-students/

Thanks, David

Hi David,

Thank you for your answer, it is very useful.

Could you please let me know if these courses allow students to apply for full funding, including both maintenance and tuition fee loans? Is there a calculator available to help estimate my potential entitlement?

Regards, Rahel

Hi there. Yes that is correct these are exception courses meaning full funding can be awarded. We have a calculator that can be used here; https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator
Thanks, David

Just to note, from what I've seen on this forum, nutrition courses aren't usually considered exception courses unless they are combined with dietetics.
