Hi there,

I studied a Level 3 Diploma in Tourism alongside two A-Levels before going on to do a degree in Tourism Management, so I’d be happy to share some insight from my own experience.

A Level 3 course in Travel and Tourism can be a strong starting point for entering the industry. Many of my coursemates have gone on to roles such as:

Destination management (e.g. working for tourism boards like VisitBritain)

Hotel and events management

Airport and airline operations

Tour operations and travel agencies

Visitor attractions, cultural venues, and heritage sites

Marketing and sales in the travel sector

The tourism industry really values practical experience and strong interpersonal skills. If you enjoy working with people and have good communication, this could be a great industry for you.

You might also want to explore foundation year degrees these are often equivalent to a Level 3 qualification and can lead directly into a full degree course. Some even include placements, which are fantastic for gaining real-world experience.

Here’s a link to an example course and the kinds of careers it can lead to: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduates/2025/35750-international-tourism-management-ba-hons

Hope that helps and best of luck with whichever path you choose!
