glasgow vs leeds

Hello, currently deciding wether to accept my offer from leeds or glasgow for economics and maths this september. Currently my biggest deciding factor is the nightlife and general student experience. for me all the other pros and cons are fairly balanced. If you have any opinions one way or the other i’d love to hear more!

Both are big cities with lots to do and pubs/clubs etc to suit every taste.

Glasgow will have the big plus of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games - massive investment in transport / city facilities, and then the Games themselves with lots of opportunities for work and volunteering, and usually parallel arts/culture festivals etc.

Hi there,

I don't know much about either university, but you might find it useful to chat to current students if you haven't done so already. It can be super helpful to learn more about the experiences of students currently at these universities, and you might even be able to find students studying the course you are interested in!

I've liked the webpage for Glasgow here and for Leeds here, which will take you to chat to their UniBuddy ambassadors.

I hope this helps,

Hi @CameronJames ,

Thank you for your question. I would love to share some insight with you regarding Glasgow life.

As you may know, Glasgow is known for its music scene. I think I can say with confidence there will be at least a couple of venues or pubs playing music every single night of the week, and all pubs are extremely student friendly. In the west end there are also a couple of nightclubs including the Hive, Oran Mor and Kitty o'Shea's as well as others, which are popular student options and which hold events during the week as well as on the weekend.

Glasgow's City Centre which is easily accessible from the west end has endless options for nightlife and it's very popular on every night of the week. I definitely think if you enjoy going out regularly Glasgow is a brilliant city as you have plenty of options and can try something new on every outing!

A very popular phrase is "No Scotland, no party", and I think Glasgow's nightlife embodies this wholly.

Hope to see you in Glasgow,
Best of luck,
