Days and Nights Out as a Kingston Student

Hi everyone,

Congratulations to those of you who have finished your second term or year at university and good luck to those who hopefully don’t have too long left now! At the end of last term, I did a post about the student organised events that had been happening at Kingston, here is the link:

Student Organised Events Happening at Kingston University - The Student Room.

So, I thought this time I would give an overview of fun days and nights out I have had in and around Kingston and London to give you some ideas if you are already there or will be joining this September! Here are some of the places I visited month by month this term:

January

Seven Sisters These are beautiful cliffs along the coast of England. We drove down which took around 2 hours each way but I believe you can get a train from Clapham which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes. We walked along the cliffs for around three hours and then went to a pub in Eastbourne.

The Design Museum Here I saw both the Barbie and Tim Burton exhibitions. Both where great and I will be back to see more exhibitions.

Battersea Me and my friend went to a gig at a pub called The Magic Garden, which had a nice outdoor space with a photobooth!

Tate Modern –I saw the Electric Dreams exhibition for just £5 with my Tate Collective membership which is free to sign up to.

Brixton Jamm We went to this club for a night out, Brixton is pretty easy to get back to Kingston from so we often go out there.

Koko This was a club in Camden where we saw Kanine, it also had a rooftop section.

Pub quiz @ The Mill - This is in Kingston and a pub where most students go as it has discount and student nights.

February

Museum of Brands in Notting Hill I love visiting Notting Hill and this museum was great! I visited the ADWomen exhibit.

Poor Boys This is a really popular restaurant in Kingston that I have been to a few times now as the food is just so good! Although we did have to queue :/

Camden Market I personally think the food is one of the highlights of the market we had Chinese food, Korean corndogs and chocolate covered strawberries.

180 Strand I headed here to do a bit of people watching at London Fashion Week and I saw Naomi Campbell! I also visited the Reverb exhibition at 180 Studios while I was there.

Southbank Centre/ The Hayward Gallery Just outside of Waterloo Station this is easy to get to Kingston. I visited the Linder Sterling and Mickalene Thomas exhibitions.

Curzon Cinema This is one of the cinemas in Kingston and it is great, the seats are like beds and sofas, plus you can get food ordered to your steat.

Ram Jam Another pub in Kingston that has open mic nights!

March

Fashion and Textiles Museum I saw the Fashion Outlaws exhibition. The area around the museum is really nice with lost of cafes and pubs.

Pub quiz @ Knights Park Bar This was a graphic design fundraiser and really fun.

O’Neil’s We went to the O’Neil’s pub in Kingston for St Patricks Day.

Private Viewing @ Town House My course held a private viewing for our exhibition at Penrhyn Roads Town House.

Stanley Picker Gallery My friend on fine art had an exhibition at this gallery right next to Knights Park.

Bongo’s Bingo @ Pryzm Kingston I love bingo so this was right up my street. I would say the one at Clapham Common was better but this one was right in Kingston.

April This was a month spent mostly in the library working on assignments :/

Rooftop Bar in Kingston I attended the launch event for a publication by the MA Publishing students which my work was featured in.

Jazz Café This is a club we went to on a night out in Camden.

Fabric Another club in central London that I like, in Farringdon.

My assignments were all due end of April, so since then I have had even more of a chance to explore Kingston and London. There is always so much going on which I really enjoy about living and studying here. I hope this has maybe give you some inspo or an idea of what you can get up to while living here.
