Gcse pens

Hi I’ve done my English literature paper 1 exam last week and used the friction erasable pens (clicky ones) , am I doomed? My invigilator never told me anything though as I’m in a separate room..

hi, i dont want to alarm you but we've been told not to use friction pens as they do not show up when scanned!
my science tutor has also mentioned this as well as invigilators at skl that friction pens dont get detected when scanned so ur work might not show up - however if its physically marked this is a different story ( itll obviously be seen then )

i think its best to talk to ur invigilator - i dont want to scare u incase im wrong! but id recommend taking a regular ballpoint in from now on

Yeah I realised at the end when I read the instructions. Though the thing is my teachers and invigilator who has been watching me doing the exam never said anything. I’m aware it’s my own fault as I didn’t read the instructions properly but it was my first GCSE and I was stressed so my mind was all over the place. If they cannot scan my work will they just resort to using a physical copy or am i really cooked

Hiya! The reason they don't allow them is because they rub off with friction - or heat, so when the scanners gey warm there's a chance the writing could disappear. I wouldn't worry as I'm sure you're not the only person in the country who has used this pen and if one of the markers spot this, they'll still be able to make sure the paper is properly marked. If you have any concerns still, definitely speak to your invigilator and just keep an eye on your mark when it comes out as if you ask for a remark they will have to double check your paper !

omg honestly this is so stressful! I’m aiming for all 9s as I want to go to a top college and now I feel like I will be crushed because of a stupid pen! I’m absolutely terrified . I emailed one of my teachers so I will just wait for a response !

again, not to alarm you, but I’m pretty sure the problem is that if there is any heat produced by the scan it denatures and fades the ink! it may become essentially erased… hopefully your work scans fine, i think they just say not to use it as a preventative measure because if it does damage the ink you obviously can’t see it anymore! It should be okay hopefully though, I’d ask your school if they can check with your exam board!

I don't blame you, I can imagine it's stressful! I panicked thinking the pen I had used wasn't a biro, but honestly it's quite unlikely it will affect your paper, I'm sure they get many people every year who do the same thing! Just try and move past and focus on your coming exams (easier said than done, I know haha) I wish you good luck for your next ones!!! This one incident will definitely not affect you getting into a top college I'm sure you'll do great!
