Should i email cambridge?

I'm not sure if I would be able to get into cambridge with my GSCEs*, even though my predicteds are good and I'm aiming for a good TMUA score. Would it be a good idea to email them and ask them myself? If so should i do it on an anonymous email or my personal one?

* (yes i know there arent any GCSE requirements, but i only passed 8 GCSES with majority 5s and nothing above a 7)

I would check the requirements of a course you’re interested in. Go to an Open Day if you can. I know some Universities do look at GCSE’s and some require top grades, such as 7’s and above.

The short answer is that there aren't any strict GCSE requirements so it is possible that you could get an offer with those grades. They're unlikely to tell you more as they can't comment further without seeing the rest of your application or knowing the calibre of applicants that year.

I would advise that you can get your referee to explain any mitigating circumstances, if there were any, as this may help to explain any discrepancies between your GCSE grades and your predicted grades.

I was able to speak to a Cambridge university admissions officer about applying with fairly low GCSEs, and the short answer is that you have to do extremely well on the admission test. The admission test is arguably the most important bit of your application (possibly joint with your personal statement), as your predicteds could vary depending on teachers, and your GCSEs don't show your level now. So there is definitely a chance, but you absolutely need to show that you have greatly improved since your GCSEs.

Quick disclaimer though - I was applying for natural sciences so we were talking about the ESAT, not TMUA. I think it would be exactly the same though.

Good luck with your applications! 😁

Cambridge is so competitive that it is unlikely to get in with lower-than average grades. You kind of have to do everything in your power to improve your application and academic record, and even then its a luck game. So focus on bolstering your application with every other aspect, like A-Level predictions (talk to teachers to help get these up if your GCSEs lower them), and extra curricular, personal statements are also highly valued. If you talk about your chosen subject like its your entire life, thats what they want.
