Will these qualifications be okay for vet-med

GCSE , taking in 2026

Math
English language
Chemistry
Biology
Art
(I might add English lit or psychology)

Alevel - taking in 2028

Chemistry
Biology

BTECH - 2028

Animal management

I’m doing my GCSEs at 18 and my alevels/btech at 20 years old

Is it ok to mix alevels and btechs
or should I just do 3 alevels

GCSEs are fine as long as you get all 5 above a 7 as that’s what most unis want (we tend to take 9/10 GCSEs so some websites will say 5 above a 7 and then a 6 in maths/english, but if you are only taking 5 they all need to be at a 7).

A levels I would just do 3 a level, a btech will complicate it and may jeopardise your chances as unis don’t really like them for vet med as they aren’t seen to be as difficult. You could contact individual unis and ask but from my experience to be completely safe stick to 3 ALs. The other option you have once you have GCSEs is to do an access course, this will limit some unis but it’s far easier than ALs!

You don’t need to do both (in fact I would advise against if you can’t pick), if you get the grades you need for ALs you can go straight to vet school but if you don’t then access is a good alternative

Check carefully on each Uni website. Animal Management is not considered an 'academic' subject and may not be accepted. A 3rd A level would be far safer.

As an example - for Vet Med at Liverpool 'We no longer accept BTEC qualifications', and at Aberystwyth, they will only accept an Extended Diploma at D*D*D* in AM and only with very specific units.
