Are my chances of being a barrister good?

Hi guys, I’m stressing because I think I won’t get AAA which is what I wanted this year, I think I’m going to get AAB, I can get into Exeter with a ABB because I’m a contextual student.I made the mistake of taking Law, psychology and English literature. I have a 4 year LLB course with 1 year placement and hoping to get a 2:1 or a 1st which I will make sure happens - do you think AAB a level is going to hold me back?

AAB or even ABB is still a set of respectable results. As long as you go to a result group uni get a 2:1 or above u are more than still in the run.

Yeh I know but it’s so competitive getting pupillage and I feel like most successful applicants have exceptional a levels 😫

You have to understand that AAB is still an exceptional result at a level. Especially if completed at a comprehensive sixth form. If so in my opinion I’d say (obvs not down to me) you are more capable than those from boarding schools/private schools who have gotten straight As/A*s. Your degree and what uni u go to holds a lot more weight than ur a levels. Icl do not stress lmao ur good

I know of people who are barristers and they went to Sussex and Northampton. A lot of barristers take another degree originally or worked in other professions so I don’t think it matters that much

Aw Thankyou this helps a lot! Yeh my college is awful I wasn’t told about the LNAT by anyone, until I find it myself not long before it was last chance so I did awful didn’t get into any of the unis I dreamed off but I got into Exeter which is very good and I’m excited, but the last few years have been so tough with my personal life and college life as well so I’m surprised I even managed to do as well as I have, I don’t know if they consider contextual students.

Exeter is also a fantastic uni, well respected within the Russell group with I’m sure loads of graduates becoming barristers. Honestly you are already in the top percentile of candidates just by going to Exeter and having AAB. I think people overestimate how many students actually get straight As and A*s as well (I blame social media imo).

I know I feel like so many people get all As, but when I think about it I only know 1/2 people who had above AAB - I know Exeter are very good I think I’m having a breakdown in the middle of exams 😂
