“Working” over 48 hours a week Student Nurse

Hi group. Can we work a Part-Time job alongside Placement? I currently do 40 hours a week on Placement, I’ve been offered a Part-Time job which is 18.5 hours. My worry is on GOV it says we can’t work more than 48 hours per week and my University have also said we can’t, I’ve read I can opt-out. Any help is really appreciated!

That 48 hour a week cap is for what you work on placement - as in, the number of hours you do physically on placement. Whatever you do that isn't placement isn't counted in these hours. Having said that, I wouldn't advise doing as much as 18.5 hours on top if placement - this is why so many student nurses work 0 hour contracts (usually nurse bank ad HCAs or pub work), doing more shifts while in theory blocks and less on placement (usually max of 1 6-12 hour shift a week)

I’ve only got 4 weeks left of placement and then I’m done.
