Hey!

Here’s some things that you can/should do:

1. Contact Student Finance England (SFE) again for a Current Year Income (CYI) assessment: You mentioned they’re still using last year’s income, that’s standard unless you tell them there’s been a significant change. If your dad lost his job this year, you can apply for a CYI assessment so that they reassess your loan amount based on your household income in 2024/25 rather than 2023/24!!
Also, even though the letter says the loan is final, that’s just based on the info they had at the time. Changes like this can open the door to more support. Either call or log into your SFE account and request the CYI application form. You'll need to provide evidence of the income drop, but it’s 100% worth doing.
2. Speak to your university’s financial support or hardship team: Most unis have emergency or hardship funds specifically for students in your situation, where loans don’t cover costs and home circumstances have changed. Some also offer rent support or instalment plans with accommodation. Reach out to your uni’s finance or student support team ASAP.
3. Budgeting + planning work: You're already planning to work over summer, which is a solid plan. If you can find flexible part-time work during term time too (even a few hours a week), it might help lighten the load a bit. But also remember, don’t overwork yourself to the point where it affects your health or studies. There is support out there!!

Hope this helps you!

Best of luck with everything

Hi dear, your plan on finding a work during summer is the crutial point to help you solve the financial issue. Also, sharing your accommodation with someone and pay the rent together can also save your budget on flat rents. Good luck!
