sheffield accommodation booking

Hello!

I’m an exchange student coming to Sheffield this September. I have two questions and would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out!

When choosing accommodation, I accidentally selected a room and went all the way to the Booking Summary page, but I’m still unsure about my choice. Does anyone know how I can go back and choose a different room?

I’m torn between Ranmoor and St Vincent halls. I prefer a calm and but friendly place, but I’m worried if I’ll fit in at Ranmoor as an international student. Also, I’m a bit concerned about the distance. For those who live or have lived there, how do you feel about these halls?

I’m feeling a bit anxious about these decisions, so I’d be really grateful for any advice or experiences you can share!

Thanks so much!

Hi!
It's great to hear that you are coming to Sheffield in September! Regarding your questions associated with the booking system it may be best to contact the accommodation team to see if they can help you. Their contact information can be found here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/contact

Unfortunately I lived in Endcliffe in my first year, so I can't share any personal experiences about Ranmoor or St Vincent's Place, however I would say the university accommodation is still quite walkable and I know there is also a bus stop right outside Ranmoor.
I hope this helped,

Sophia, Thank you so much for your kind reply, and for including the link as well! I’ve contacted the university, and it looks like I’ll be able to reselect my accommodation I really appreciate your help.
Also, thank you for letting me know that Ranmoor is within walking distance to the university and that there’s a bus available too. That’s very reassuring! I’ll take a bit more time to look into the options.
Thanks again for all your support 😊

Hi, for the accomodation portal, I have paid the 150 pound deposit, but it is telling me to pay all of the accommodation fees in one go after the deposit, may I ask if this is normal, thank you

Hiya @jjjjjjwdwd,

If this is for university accommodation, from my experience in first year I don't recall having to pay the full accommodation fees immediately after the deposit; I believe it's paid in instalments throughout the year. If you believe there is a problem with your contract I recommend contacting the accommodation team via this page: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/contact and they'll be able to help you!

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi, weird question, but does anyone have measurements for the storage space under each bed in ranmoor and endcliffe?

Hey I’m doing an exchange too!!! What made you choose between Ranmoore and St Vincent! I’m still deciding and I want to pick someplace with other exchange students too:smile:

Hey there!

Don't worry that's not a weird question at all! I'm afraid I don't have the exact measurements for you but I can say there is plenty! I was in Howden in Endcliffe and the storage was below the entire bed length and width; I managed to store my suitcase, bedding and extra clothes in there and there was still under half of it remaining which I just left empty. Most of the rooms have lots of shelves around the desk and a decent wardrobe space so there is definitely lots of space to store your things.

Hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any other questions about accommodation or university in general 🙂

Hi, if anyone is still looking for accommodation in Sheffield, I have booked a Gold en suite room at Steelworks for 25/26 and am looking for someone to take over my tenancy due to a change of circumstances. I'm also willing to pay 10% of the price.

Hi chroma_cwuq, 👋

I understand how difficult it can be to make the decision on accommodation! My experiences in university accommodation have all been positive but I totally agree that it can be nerve-racking when you're not sure what to expect.

I personally recommend university accommodation especially if it is your first year as it is a great way to meet new people that are on different courses, different years etc. You never know, the people you meet in your flat could end up being friends for life! 😄

But if a studio is more suited for you, that's absolutely fine. You can actually get a studio apartment through university accommodation so this is a great choice if you want some more space and quiet but still want to live in the student accommodation areas because they are so well-located near shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and they are a great way to meet people and get involved with events and activities!

Here, you can explore the different living options at student accommodation. For instance, you can get studios within Endcliffe and Ranmoor (e.g. Laddow, Wimberry, Windgather and Kinder). I personally stayed in Endcliffe and it was the perfect location for me as there were great chances to meet people but it wasn't hugely loud! 😀

If you have any other questions about accommodation or the university more generally, please don't hesitate to let me know!

All best wishes,
Phoebe 😊

Hiya @Anonymous#4!

Great to hear you're coming to Sheffield for your exchange!

In terms of deciding between these 2, Ranmoor is a much larger accommodation complex compared to St Vincent's, so there you will see a lot more students around. However St Vincent's is based in the city, closer to the university campus and so would be a shorter walk to uni. Ranmoor is closer to areas of Sheffield such as Ecclesall Road with lots of shops and cafes and Crookes as well, however St Vincent's is closer to the city centre and the train station. Ultimately both are lovely places to live and so mainly depends on what your preference is!

From my experience exchange students are usually in a range of accommodations, and I believe the accommodation team will place you in mature flats so you will be living with others who aren't in their first year. To check this process I would get in touch with the accommodation team via this page https://sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/contact as well.

Hope this helps, please get in touch with any other questions!
