Physics Paper 1 AQA A-LEVEL stressing out

I finished my paper yesterday and OMDS i could have done so much better, I was rushing through it, didnt have time to check my answers and make sm silly mistakes, and worst of all I NEED an A* and from this first paper Im projected around HIGH 50 to HIGH 60 and thats like an A or if its low grade boundaries A* but its just been stressing me and I could do with some words of encouragement right now

I feel you completely (also someone who needs an A* in physics but found the paper difficult). But you got to remember that for physics, paper 2 and 3 are the real killers. We’ve only done 1/3 of the A level. Paper 2 is usually where the country performs the worst as long as we smash paper 2, physics is absolutely recoverable. Minor setback, major comeback!!

Also, we don’t know what the grade boundaries are! Of course the people who talk about the paper on TSR or Reddit will generally be students who have performed well in the papers, but these circles only represent a tiny minority of people sitting the exams.

Summary: you have so got this. Keep your head up and stay focused on paper 2 and 3.

its just so annoying that the paper was actually alright but i made sm mistakes and could just distance me from that A*. but yes paper 2 is weirdly my better paper of the two and now i have some idea of how to approach that paper. I just want this jarring feeling to vanish

Paper 2 is all about understanding and if you make an effort to understand the physics, it will come in clutch. You can easily make up enough marks in paper 2 and 3, please don’t be demotivated!

Same here, I also need an A* for Physics as well, projecting around high 50 to high 60 as well. Therefore, I re-starting my revision on paper 2 and 3 (i.e. approaching my revision in a different way)

same, im spreading out my revision for physics so focusing on paper 3 and 2 stuff this half term and next week and focus more paper 2 on the week of the exam, hopefully all of us can get our offers

Wait how is 50-60 an A? My teacher told me to get an A/A* u should aim for like 80-90% on paper 1 cuz paper 2 is generally more difficult

I assume they mean 50-60 marks, not %. Also for AQA, you don't need 80-90% for an A* lol, it was like 68% overall for an A* last year because the papers are ridiculous. I generally find paper 2 nicer than paper 1 and last year, even with the big typo in paper 2 and the apparently shocking difference, there were only 5 marks between the A* boundary for paper 1 and 2 (it was roughly 60 for an A* for paper 1 and 55 for an A* for paper 2).

Aaah I see, for some reason its rlly difficult to accept that getting 55/85 marks on average on a paper is actually good- makes me feel horrible😭

i agree, normally on mocks i get like 60-70 range which still feels like i did bad idk why but ig that AQA physics unfortunately

u could always check the grade boundaries but for an A * the lowest its been was like 58 or 60 not sure and the highest was like 69, for an A it was like 45 i think was the lowest but 60 as the highest, so typically depends on the difficulty but this paper we did was similar to last year but slightly better for some, slightly not better for some

I completely get what you mean. It's less because of not knowing physics and more because of how silly the mark schemes can be in some cases. AQA have a habit of writing some dodgy questions as well. But other times, it genuinely is just because the physics is hard.
