Dentistry PLZ HELP a girl out

Hello guys I’m in year 12 currently studying biology English language and phycology. I have pretty average GCSEs due to personal circumstances that were very severe and did affect my mental health.

I really want to do dentistry but I can’t do a gap year as my family won’t let me as they think it doesn’t make a difference as it doesn’t garuntee u getting a place in the next following year

Could you guys plz help me and tell me which unis I can apply to with 5 in maths and chem and 4 in physics and 6 in eveything else

Is there any foundation years or unis that can accept me as I am also a contextual student mt parents don’t work and live in a deprived area

Hello, you've come to the right place

First of all yes there's no guarantee that after a gap year you would be given offers to study dentistry, so if you are on track for the entry requirement grades then there's every reason to apply.

Second, what grades are you expecting to be on your UCAS application as teacher predictions?

About 5 years ago I (with some helpers) compiled a list of dentistry entry requirements, which can be found here:
https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/university/courses/dentistry/dentistry-entry-requirements
Some of these will have changed, but it's a starting point. Always do your own research.
Based on your 5 in maths, there are some courses that are closed to you, the physics is less of a barrier as few universities specify physics as a stipulation.

Even with exceptional circumstances explained in your reference, it's possible (personally I think it's likely) that some university courses will reject you outright. These are competitive courses and the admissions teams need ways to narrow down applicants.

There are some gateway courses you can apply to which are essentially dentistry + foundation year at the start. Some of these courses are targeted towards non-A Level entry. Entry requirements here:
https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/university/courses/dentistry/entry-requirements-for-pre-dental-courses

Have you considered resitting GCSE Maths when you take your A Level exams? Your school may not be willing to pay the entry fee but it could be 1 way of broadening how many dental schools you would be able to access

Let me know what you're thinking

There’s no point in resitting maths as I it’s to late and I will apply in October for dentistry

I’m getting a-cs in my mocks so hopefully I can get all as and a starts for my end of years and get good ucat and predicted the only thing is my gcse and my no a level chemistry

I was also thinking to do medicine cos there’s more option for my low gcse as my parents are not gona let me take gap year im really firm on doing dentistry but its my parents and want me to get in first time

I am so stressed as a year 12 student and it’s making me hate application process

I think I can get into Bristol with gateway course idk about the rest but also my parents won’t even let me go abroad as they don’t have finance to cover
Hopefully my life becomes better and mind become at ease as no one in school seems to help

Resitting maths wouldn't be too late as you must enter all qualifications you currently have AND any you are being entered for in 2026, you would list your A Levels and put the grade as "Pending" for each one, and then do the same for GCSE Maths.

Don't do medicine just because you don't think you'll get into dentistry, same goes for DHT.

Unless you try to enter for November 2025, your only option is June 2026. If you don't feel either of those will be suitable then you have to apply with your existing maths grade only.

You can apply to more than one, but this is where you need to conduct your own research.
