The Student Room Group

St Andrews McIntosch

Hey everyone! I'm a Scottish student going into first year at St Andrews next year. I have been allocated McIntosh as my halls which I am very happy with. I have a single room as well. I was wondering if anybody has any advice or knowledge they can give. I was also wondering on average how many Scottish people are allocated McIntosh as I've only heard of Americans going so far. Thank you!

Hi, I have just finished first year and I was in McIntosh Hall. I had a really great experience, I might be biased but I truly think McIntosh is the best hall - best location, lovely building, great social events, and just a really lovely place to live. I'm a Scottish student and I will say that McIntosh is probably about 60-70% Americans, but there are quite a few Scottish students (also the Americans are generally lovely as well so don't let it put you off).
In terms of advice, make the most of the free bars (if you drink) - they're on every night during freshers week and then every Friday for the rest of the year. It's unlimited and means you don't really need to pay for drinks when you go out.
Overall, enjoy the year! It's genuinely such a great place to live, you'll have a blast x

What is the breakdown of singles vs double rooms at McIntosh? And is McIntosh mainly 1st and 2nd years?

Thank you so much!! I didn’t know that they had a free bar that’s so cool! Are they in Mcintosch itself? My room number is c43 is that close to where yours was?

I have an unconditional offer and heard back on the 21st of May. I have heard of other people with unconditional offers that have not heard back yet
