Cyber security (BSc)

Please I need helpppp!!!

I've applied to Oxford Brooks, Uni of Derby, NTU, Sheffield Hallem and LSBU to study cyber security. I've got all my offers back and I don't know which one to pick??? I'm thinking I might reject all and enter through clearing for other ones. IDKKKK.
Also would you recommend I narrow my choices for the ones that are NCSC certified?

If there's anyone studying this course at the above mentioned unis please replyy!!!

Tips and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Compare the modules and optional modules for all years of the course and think about which you would pick if you went there. Do any of the courses offer a placement year? This adds a lot to your graduate CV. Then think about where you could see yourself living. LSBU will be expensive. Which unis did you like when you visited on open days?

Thank you so much!!! I'll take those questions into considerations to help me narrow down the options. Also do you think it would be better to go to a uni which is NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) certified?

Honestly, being NSCS would be a great advantage and reputable

Hey! First off, massive congrats on all your offers, that’s a great position to be in! 😊
Get that it can feel overwhelming choosing between unis, especially with something as specialised as Cyber Security. You mentioned the NCSC certification, which is a useful way to narrow things down. It shows the course meets industry-recognised standards, which can help with job prospects later.
Just to let you know, LSBU’s Cyber Security course is NCSC-certified, and we focus a lot on hands-on learning, industry links, and real-world experience. Lots of our students come from varied backgrounds, and we’ve got great support in place to help you settle in and succeed.
As for going through Clearing, it can work, but keep in mind it’s not guaranteed you’ll find something better than what you’ve already got. If you’ve got solid offers now, it’s worth looking into what each course offers (teaching style, placement opportunities, facilities, etc.) before making a final decision.
If you want to chat to someone on the course or ask more about life at LSBU, feel free to call us on 020 7815 6189 to speak with a student ambassador. 😊

Hi @username73693,

We hope you were able to make your choice! I can imagine it's been a stressful time, especially if you've got ongoing examinations. If you have any questions about Cyber Security at NTU I'd be happy to help, and you can also reach out to our current staff and students here.

We're especially proud of our focus on employability and placement opportunities; Our recent students have taken placements across a wide range of companies including Lexis Nexis, Rolls Royce and The Press Association, in roles such as Fraud Analyst, Technical Support Specialist and Information Systems Assistant.

If you did reject your current offers or decline by default, you may also be able to explore your options through UCAS Extra.

I hope this helps, best of luck if you're awaiting any results!

I decided to reject all and apply through extra to DMU since I was looking for something closer to home! Hope I'm not making the wrong choice lol. It was so hard to choose since I weas looking at so many factors but oh well. I couldn't find whether DMU was NCSC certified on their website so I called and they said it may be so??? So I hope it is!

Is NTU NCSC certified for the undergraduate cyber security course?

Our BSc Cybersecurity course is accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. This means you'll be able to register as a Chartered IT Professional upon completion of the course.

Their master's courses are (Cyber Security/Technology), their undergraduate ones are not (from the ink I've provided anyway).

Hi,

Congratulations on getting offers, that’s a brilliant position to be in! The BSc Computer Science for Cyber Security at Oxford Brookes is NCSC-certified, meaning the content and learning outcomes have been independently assessed against rigorous industry and government standards. This certification can be important for employers and some government roles, and may set you apart from other graduates applying for the same positions.

Alongside the NCSC-accreditation, Brookes stands out for its Industry-recognised curriculum, which mixes core computer science with dedicated cyber modules so you graduate job-ready, not just theory-rich, and it’s also accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). Another benefit is that this course has had its facilities updated and is now based on the Headington Hill Site, which provides greater access to tech employers, improves collaboration within Oxford Brookes, and allows students to benefit from the active industry links that feed into their teaching.

I recommend attending an Open Day to meet the academics, tour the labs and new facilities, and ask about placements or industry links. This is the quickest way to know if the vibe and teaching match what you want, and you can book an Open Day here.

Good luck with your decision-making, and please let me know if you have any questions!
Dan
