Hi there.

I'm struggling with making a choice whether to study game art at Manchester, Leeds or Nottingham and I'm worried about making the wrong decison if I pick one over the other. I'm interested in 2D digital and concept art the most. I already have an offer at all of them but I'm wondering what sort of benefits you get from NTU compared to other universities or how students have found it, do you collaborate with other departments and get access to other facilities as well? Is it all strictly digital only or is there traditional workshops too? what sort of projects do you get to do? etc.

Thanks

Hi @R0zzaaa,

I think we may have picked up your question on other platforms, but I'll share it here too in case there are other students feeling the same as you!

Making your choice is difficult, especially at this time of year with so much going on. One of the big standouts to studying at NTU is our new facilities for Design and Digital Arts; our DaDA building, new in 2024, features brand new and state-of-the-art workspaces that I'd highly encourage you to explore. As well as this, our CoLab projects feature heavily in our Art and Design courses, giving you the opportunity to work with fellow students across disciplines to work on live briefs in a variety of areas.

You can also always chat with our current students and staff to hear their experiences!

Hi there, that does help out a lot understanding it better. I had another question

What sort of live briefs would game art students be doing throughout the course? Is it strictly just making games as a team or do they work with other departments in digital arts to create an animation for example or environments as well?

Thanks

The CoLab is a module you can take in the second year of Games Art, and you’ll be working alongside artists, designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, and filmmakers from other courses, as well as sometimes at other institutions. Your project explores how creativity can make an impact in society, as you choose a theme of sustainability, social justice, enterprise and innovation or community, and the exact project briefs change year on year, as well as with your interpretation of a brief. Your final production may be in a wide range of disciplines, depending on how you decide to move forward.

I am a student who has applied to Nottingham Trent University, and my conditions are BCC for Electrical Engineering at the bachelor's level. I'm an international student, and I'm most likely to receive a CDD or CCD due to some extra circumstances related to my country, Pakistan, being at war for around a week during the exams, which significantly affected almost every student here, as many papers were also canceled. I was wondering if I would still be accepted with a CCD or a CDD, as even on UCAS it states that the average grade for people accepted for this degree is CCD. Would I be accepted or do I check out for other unis

Hi @ahmedatif,

Our thoughts are with you, I can imagine this has been an extremely stressful time.

When we receive your exam results, we'll consider your grades against the offer we have made. If you don't meet the requirements, we will re-assess your full application and circumstances to see if we can accept you with the grades you've achieved. We consider these circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Therefore, please try not to panic if you don't achieve your predicted grades, as we may still be able to offer you a place on your desired course. Alternatively, if you do not receive a place on your chosen course, you could always explore what courses are available with us through Clearing.

As well as this, if you've experienced a significant disruption I'd recommend reviewing our mitigating circumstances information. We also advise speaking to your school or college, as they may be able to provide further supporting information, as well as inform you if the exam board or awarding body will be taking into account any disruptions or challenges in grading decisions.

We're wishing you all the best over the coming months, let us know if you have any questions. You can also always speak to our Admissions team for more in depth advice about your application.

Hey! NTU is my first choice after receiving an unconditional offer and I was just wondering what support is available from NTU in regards to having mental health issues? (This also depends if SFE accepts my CPR, wish me luck)

I have applied for DSA and special support loan. I also have a meeting with the Mental Health Mentoring and Access Team. I have submitted all medical evidence that I currently have, regarding my mental health and just awaiting from DSA and CPR atm to see if been accepted or not.

I will also be a mature student at 31. Any advice to someone who is mature that be attending NTU? My education will be very important to me and know this time at uni, I will need the support to complete my studies. I plan on attending an open day on 28th June.

Hi @Jammiejam1993,

It's great to hear you've accepted your place to study with us! We look forward to welcoming you to NTU.

If you've already booked a meeting with our Mental Health Mentoring and Access Team, they should be able to guide you through the range of support we offer at NTU, but you can also review our mental health support pages while you await your appointment. The team will also be at our upcoming Open Day, and will be happy to help with any questions you have on the day.

I joined NTU as a mature student (graduated in 2019), and the best advice I can give is to not be afraid to get involved in the student community from the start; especially if you're living off campus and commuting like I was. It took me a bit of time to put myself out there to meet my fellow students and take advantage of some of the resources available, and once I did I only wished I had done so sooner.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions!

Thank you for getting back so promptly. You mentioned About getting involved in the student community. What do you mean by this? Is there a society at all for mature students? I wouldn’t mind joining that society. I do wanna try and make the best I possibly can at uni. I plan to ask questions to lecturers after class and be involved as much as possible. I also hopefully DSA gets approved, so hoping I have someone whom keeps me motivated and get support.

It’s nice to know the mature students are accepted at the university. I know sometimes can be a generational divide due to our ages but I just wanna get along with my peers. I’m looking forward to seeing the campus. Also thank you for the information regarding my mental health. Having Depression, Anxiety and EUPD is hard work but I wanna prove that despite this, you can do anything you set your mind to.

Hi there,

It usually takes a few weeks for our academic tutors to assess portfolios, but you can always get in touch with our Admissions team for a full update on this process; they may be able to follow up and ensure this is reviewed for you as soon as possible.

Hi @Jammiejam1993,

There is the Mature-ish Society that may appeal to you in that case, as well as a wide range of other both course and interest related societies that you can join! Personally I took part in student radio Fly Live as well as Drama society, but there are also general events throughout the year, both held by NTSU, as well as academic events and arts events that I'd highly encourage anyone explore when they arrive.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming open day! Do feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
